Came back down to earth with a bump this evening.

As some will know, I had a perfect end of season round a couple of weeks ago with 40 points and a cut. Life was good, confidence in my game was soaring.
I never got the opportunity to play any golf until today.
Finished work early, came home, quick natter with the missus, quick brew, then up to the course.

1st tee drive, straight down the middle, not overly long but straight as a die! ;) Wahey!!!

Fairway iron shot...... thinned the bugger, barely lifted the ball 5 feet from the ground but it ran a bit on the heavy wet fairway. Pitched onto the green leaving a 10 footer.
I'd been doing a bit of carpet putting so had some idea. Missed by a bloody mile! Left it well short.

2nd, good drive, good iron shot, 3 putt.

3rd, poor drive, pulled left. Teed up another and spanked it down the middle. Nobbed iron shot, decent pitch, pants putting.

And so it went on. A mixture of good and bad. As I said, it brought me back down to earth good and proper.

No worries, practise over the winter, get a few good weather rounds in when able and be good and ready for next season.

I'm guessing your carpet is about 11 on the stimp meter?

:D :D :D Nice one Bob.

Our greens are usually pretty damned quick. Obviously with all the rain we've had lately, they were really very slow and heavy. Just seemed a bit difficult getting the pace sorted. Should have had a quick session on the putting green before playing methinks!

Dont get down, since I got my handicap at the end of the summer I have not been able to put a card together anything like the ones I handed in for my handicap. I have played in the last 2 medals and hit 101 on both. It makes me feel sick to write that down having shot 90-94 all summer long. I have to put it out of my mind and crack on with my program. I am striking the ball so sweet and so far but making too many errors. I did hit a 44 on the front 9 at Bearwood so I know its still there somewhere.

England V the rest of the world patch play this weekend, that will be a nice break.

Isn't that just golf though. One fleeting glimpse of success, a little mixture of good and bad to keep your hopes up and then a shed load of misery. Then suddenly the good and bad returns and eventually, if you are a very good boy (or girl) and eat all your vegetables at dinner, you'll get rewarded again with some more decent golf

Thats golf and life. Looking forward to the next purple patch, I would still like a cut before christmas.

Nothing like a frustrating round to give you a cold hard slap across the face. i put myself through literally weeks of rubbish for the buzz of a single decent round.

a good round is addictive, i dont think i look forward to a round more than straight after ive had a good game.

Sort of like a sporty pete doherty
