Women who have a personalised number plate that includes the word 'hot' tend not to be. :D

I've also seen a battered old Toyota Previa with the word 'sexy' in the number plate.

Words fail me!!

Perhaps they are being ironic....

Anyone else like to add to my inane ramblings?? :)

It's more often than not the more expensive the car the less likely that the owner bought the indicator option.

Speed limits only apply when Speed Cameras or Police are visible.

You can tell when it's Friday (or in this case Thursday) afternoon and hot because the standard of driving nose-dives into oblivion.

Wy do people look right, left and right again and then still walk out in front of you?

Some people have a Degree in Stupidity - saw a Guy the other day trying to cross a busy road - there was a Zebra crossing 30 yards away....??

The number of Convertible cars I have seen this week with the top firmly UP is astounding - why buy one if you're not going to use it?

The Right hand lane at a Roundabout is for going RIGHT unless otherwise advised!!!!!

:D that's spot on mate, there's a bird down the road from me who's got a mg soft top with " babe " in the number plate , think she must be a fan of the film, definately shouldnt have the top down looking like that,im sure there's someting in the highway code about " the transportation of livestock" they have to be in a sealed container or something :D

Absolutely hate it when I stop to give way at a roundabout only for the approaching Chelsea tractor/poseur sports car to turn left.

As for speed limits, I reckon most people I see who do observe the speed limit are only doing so because they are behind me and can't overtake. They make up for it by driving 2 feet behind my bumper.

Always think it's so funny seeing those litte processions of 3 cars with about a yard between them, or people tailgating lorries. :D

Mrs MN's sister, who lives in the US, hates driving here when she visits now. She can't believe how much tailgating there is. It just doesn't happen in suburban America.

Why do only women drive the full length of a dual carriageway in the right hand lane when the inside lane is empty?

Chris

Because they might need to turn right eventually and feel that the lane change would be have a high difficulty tariff should they encounter even maybe another car anywhere along that stretch.

Why do people drive down high streets (any main shopping non pedestrianised street for that matter) throw on the hazard lights and get out leaving a stream of cars stuck behind them? Does emergency lights make their stupidity justified? "I need a new pair of trousers and a top for the party next week, I can't wait for a space so I'll abandon my car here... It's ok though I'll put my flashy lights on and everyone will understand".

Not sure what part of the US she lives, but certainly not any of the places where I have lived and worked.
In fact I have found it far worse in the US, mainly due to people also being distracted using a phone (no hands free) as it's not illegal there.

Edit: Should add legality of phone use depends on state, but mostly there's no ban, or limited bans e.g Only bus drivers and teenagers can't use phone.

On seeing the title, I was planning on boring you all with tales of "Approach Wedges"....oh well.

Indicators are rare out here, not extinct, but generally not purchased as an option.

A popular driving tactic around here is to turn right on roundabouts from the left hand side/lane of the entrance. Also, going straight over a roundabout (literally) is very much the done thing, cutting up the car in the right lane going right!

"Space creation" is popular in supermarkets and retail parks...i.e. park on the ornamental bricks directly around the disabled bays.

I could go on. :(

We have a busy roundabout near where I live.
Not counting the junction I'm on there are 4 other exits.
There are 2 lanes at the entrance to the roundabout.
How hard can it be.
But oh no.
On comes mr/mrs "I'm important"
Outside lane.
Straight onto the tight line round the island and in one move cuts accross 3 lanes and turns off on the second exit.

She lives in small town Connecticut. When we went out to visit, the roads did seem very quiet and the traffic fairly calm and well behaved compared to here but they do have a 4 lane highway through the village to carry a fraction of the traffic that over here has to fit on a narrow single carriageway A road.

Her husband is from Iowa. Miles of roads with no cars. No houses. No people. He loves it.

Interesting! I have lived in both big city and middle of nowhere in the US. In the city I found it similar to here, too many cars, not enough road (and patience!).

In the country the roads were quiet in terms of number of vehicles. Unfortunately of the vehicles that were using the road, plenty were maniacs demonstrating how much torque their huge V8 pick up truck had, usually on the way home from the bar. In these areas people also seemed to have far less qualms about drinking and driving than I see here.

So judging from your experiences, I guess it depends on the region really.

Taxi drivers, who think the traffic lights mean "edge your way forward until they change from green to red"

Chavvy little barsturds who fly past parked cars on their side of the road making you stop and pull over.

Twots who don't acknowledge you when you let them through or pull out!

Chelsea tractor drivers who think because they drive a monstrosity of a huge car, have the right to bully people out of the way.

4x4 drivers who all seem to appear when the snow has fallen, but have no idea how to drive in the stuff!

My observation is that there are not enough police slapping fines on people who have illegal number plates made up and in use.

Also why is that people over sixty have no sense of courtesy when shopping, they seems to have straight line syndrome, and never allow other people to walk without going round them.

Finally why are there so mnay people who have little pride in the area they live, more should look after not only their property, but the pavement and roadway/ ginnel surrounding. Would make the world a much better place.

I couldn't agree more. These days everything is a potential cash cow. Perhaps if the Police could take advantage of some innovative revenue streams it would be in everyone's interest (apart from those that are too cool or too full-of-it to abide by some basics).
If I was a copper, I'd be busting folk all day long if there was some money in it.

From what I understand Old Bill can only issue a 7-day "fix it" warning - meaning they have to show up at a Cop Shop within 7 days showing legal number plate.
Seeing as all they have to do is swap the original plates back on for the half hour trip to and from the Station and for Bill Rozzer to check it out, then swap them back as soonas they get home it's a mockery!

They should be clamping down on the shops that make the plates up - it is illegal after all. Having said that, knowing our Laws, it's probably legal to make them but not legal to have them on your car - duh?
