Just saw this on my local newspaper website. I cant wait!!

CARNIVAL organisers have reached for the sky after securing a fly past of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) for this year’s Newbury Carnival on July 14.

The flight will see the Second World War aircraft, a Supermarine Spitfire, Hawker Hurricane and Avro Lancaster bomber, soar over the parade as it travels down Northbrook Street before finishing in Victoria Park where a fete and funfair will entertain the crowds.

You just cannot beat the sound of a merlin engine on full chat.

My old dad flew Lancasters when "doing his bit"... Would've been 91 today...

Lump to my throat, tear to my eye everytime I see one...

My dad flew Spitfires and Hurricanes, so we have a full set. He would have been 91 this year as well. Good to see the old kites still flying.

saw the thread title and thought it was about 1 plane or 2 plane swings:)

Love the sound of old planes, saw a Spitfire in Perthshire 2 weeks ago just flying past on its own- brilliant

I miss read it too!

Lol you two obviously don't know me well enough! I am no way qualified to be discussing one plane swings! Wouldn't know if one hit me up the rear! Old plane though, that's a different story! I can't wait to see these babies fly past! [makes plane noises while typing]

That video is actually all cgi. Very good cgi indeed.

This is the real thing:-

I was based at RAF Coningsby between 1984-87 where the BBMF were based. Used to see them fly every week and never got bored of it.

My ex missus (she was an ATC WRAF), got a flight in the rear gunners position....(that's not a euphemism by the way.........:o )

That was probably a 2/3 scale replica which is seen fairly regularly here. Pretty convincing when in the air though.

Farnborough air show early fifties. Vulcan bomber, full on down runway, steep climb on full power. The noise was unforgettable and made the whole body shake. This coupled with my first ice cold coca cola sticks in the memory like it was yesterday.
The BBMF comes over us occasionally. Also unforgettable.

Still my Favorited plane of all time. I remember sitting on the roof of the car as a kid at the Greenham common airshow with this beast flying away from the crowd line with full afterburners on making the ground shake and car alarms going off all over the place.
You could feel every organ in your body vibrating.

I was also lucky enough to get the chance to sit in one. Such a tiny cockpit for such a big plane.

Hi Andy, it probably sounded like it, but the Olympus engines fitted to the Vulcan did not have afterburner. The ones fitted to Concorde did, but not the Vulcan. I worked on the engine for 3 years on 101 Sqn at RAF Waddington between 79-82 and was fortunate enough to get a flight out in one to Goosebay, Newfoundland.......amazing experience....

Great video...brought back fantastic memories...

You are showing your age now! I live right next door to greenham common and there has not been a plane take off their for at least 20 years if not more! The common is full of wild ponies, cows and silly people running etc. still a few of the old bunkers and buildings about, the old silos are now lakes. Lucky really as my house would be directly on the flight path for landing!

I had read that the clip I posted was CGI, but it's the noise the Merlin makes as it flies past, no other sound like it.
