Audi drivers on motorways

Why is it that when it snows nobody uses the outside lanes of the motorways? Salt alone will not keep the roads open, it needs traffic to make the salt and grit work, so use all the lanes.

Funnily you should say that Wayne as we were heading up home this morning from Taunton a knob in a new Audi a5 tried flashing his lights at me I was doing 75ish over taking two lorries I'm in a sprinter van can you guess where he sat for around a mile at 60mph you got it right behind me but would not then pull over when I politely asked him to

Nobody is a greater plonker than the guy in a disco who pulled out of a junction right in front of an ambulance with lights blazing. Either they did not look right at all or they just blanked on the blue lights and siren (plus horn I think too)...

Thankfully I WAS aware and dived out the way as the ambulance swerved violently around the guy, I wouldn't want to think what could have happened if I had not been aware as there was nowhere else for the ambulance to go other than my side of the road or into the back of the land rover.

I take it you dont have a mortgage.

I do, a very big one. That is why I don't drive in the snow. I would hate to think that when I have been wiped out the wife gets to live in a mansion with no mortgage, 'cause I decided to drive to work in the snow :)

But seriously, no matter how well equipped you are for driving in the snow, correct tyres, sensible speed etc etc, there is always the nutter that is possibly going to wipe you out. And, they are not necessarily Audi drivers.

Also, I live in Dorset and, we don't actually have any motorways. The nearest proper dual carriageway is about 10 miles away. We are still wearing flares down this way.

I have a Mortgage - I don't work in the Snow......

Letting Learner Drivers loose in this..? - not a chance......

Surely this is a great opportunity to teach drivers how to cope with this weather? The biggest problem I see with winter driving is people don't know how to drive in it. Foot to the floor with wheels spinning, not appreciating stopping distances etc.

Most "family cars" are not capable of driving in conditions like we have at the moment. If you are lucky enough to have a large 4x4 then yes, go for it but they still require good driving techniques to get to your destination safely.

Every Learner is heavy with the brake until they're almost ready for test - almost without exception.
On a wet road it's not too bad but on snow or ice the car would be a wreck within a mile.....
If they were capable I'd go out but even then, any skid or very near miss knocks their confidence.
And, as has been said, you can't legislate for the other idiots who can't drive on it either....
Simply not worth the risk.

so true! as i found out when i hit the back of a L200 in fleet services car park! (in my xc90 4x4 that wouldn't stop!) was a mental snowy day and nothing worked trying to stop the 1.5 tons at 10mph! brakes, steering, acceleration tried it all i had that much time gliding gracefully then whack! lol no one was hurt except my pride and his bumper.
