We have our Aution Cup tomorrow. Its a fourball betterball stapleford comp. You enter with a partner(we are 7 & 9) and are then auctioned off at a dinner, which you must attend, and after a few beers can get a bit noisey. The cost of the dinner and admin are £14, not bad. There were 64 pairs entered, so a good field.
The rules of the auction are: your names are pulled out of the Auction Cup, you have to stand up and then the bidding takes place. You are sold to the highest bidder. At the end of the auction you then have the option of buying half your selves back from your purchaser. Any monies that you win is then split 50/50, if you dont then any monies won are his.
Went to the auction dinner thursday night. My partner and i were drawn out half way through and went for £90. We bought half ourselves back for £45, £22.50 each. Not bad, one pair went for £190. You dont know your start time or playing partners until after the auction has finished We are off at 11.50am and with two good lads. The first group go out at 8.00am, the last group go out at 1.30pm
£5160 was raised on the night of which 10% goes to charity. Top prize is £400, it then goes down to about 15th place.
Played the course today and its looking pretty good. The greens will be cut first thing in the morning so they should be a good pace and i suspect one or two pins will tucked away in some tricky spots.
Anywhere in the money would be good. Ill let you know how we get on.
Does your club hold an auction cup? If so what format is it?
