I know this has sort of been covered before but Aztecs' post (and some responses) about the Dunlop Collection gear got me thinking, how many of us are golf brans snobs?

Perhaps a little poll might reveal our true feelings!

You can be annoymous on this one and just click yes or no or offer some more detailed insight into your thinking.

I didnt vote Mike as im not sure what category i would fall into...

Most of my gear is Ping as per Sig but i do have a soft spot for Wilsonstaff gear and i have an MD Putter...So Im not sure if I fit the snob criteria.

I keep my woods the same because i read somewhere in a magazine that if you have a particular liking for a certain club and shaft of a certain manufacturer then there is a high chance that you will get on with the others in the family also...

Not really sure its working so far as im playing crap but thats anothers post i suppose :( ;)

Yep, I'm a massive brand snob/whore.

I have to have the best makes.

I drive an newish M3 and wear smart clothes such as All Saints etc. So I guess it's natural to want the new and flashy stuff in golf.

It's a bit pathetic to be honest but I can't help it.

I think it's a pride thing to want the best stuff out there.

There is a difference between being a snob and wanting good quality equipment.

The fact is that Dunlop is now a bargain basement brand (unlike in the 1980s) and is made from cheap components. GM and other mags review top end equipment and give rave reviews to the latest Callaway, TM, Ping etc stuff, with an occasional nod to the better quality mid price stuff such as MD and Benross, but reviews of the cheap stuff are often horrible.

im a sucker for nike, in any sport not just golf :(

I have to have everything Adidas in my other sports such as Football. I've never bought anything Nike as for some strange reason... I hate Nike.

It's certainly strange, maybe I'm slightly mental.

Hi,

most of my clubs have been bought 2nd hand , I don't really care what I use. As my sig states , I have a mixture of MD clubs and some Ping ones.

I don't think I am a brand snob , but I have not had the money to prove this theroy. I will stick to getting clubs of the forum and car boot sales. :D

Cheers

Midnight...

I am not a brand snob and I carry Benross, MD and Orka clubs out of choice. As for clothes, most of my polo shirts are from supermarkets or cotton traders. My waterproofs are Woodworm and do a great job for the £29 they cost, my shoes and 3/4 waterproof top are Stylo and my windproof sleeveless top is Slazenger (and had lasted several years with no problem).

i wear dunlop golf trousers too will be nike when i have the money after membership and other nike clubs have been bought

need a driver will be a nike st8 fit

hybrid will either be VR tour or machspeed

putter will be method core

off golf bidder tho lol

Yes I guess I am (see sig). I also wear Footjoy shoes and Cutter & Buck and Ashworth shirts.

However I do remember when Dunlop were a top brand (had a set of Peter Thomson irons years ago) and I still consider Wilson to be a top brand.

Some inverse snobbery too I'm afraid. Nike just seem too "new" to golf for me (although I have had Nike trainers and liked them) and I can't make myself like irons that have bits of coloured plastic stuck on the back or woods that have moveable parts.

I like to have the best I can afford. That suits my game and helps me make the best decisions in a round.

So I have clothing form several manufacturers but all co-ordinated colours and brands for outfits. I also have top notch GPS to help me make better choices.

In the nest few months I will be going to a club builder to have shafts matched to my swing and will get the best I can with heads that suit, I'll do whatever I can to develop as quickly as possible.

Playing to less than 18 at present hoping to be less than 15 by end of season. Not sure the gear helps, but it makes me feel better and worry less during a round.

Yep im a brand snob, clubs are predominantly Titleist and Callaway, use a top end ball, most of my clothing is Under Armour etc, I dont think the name is a reason for buying something, but it can certainly stop me doing so

Not really sure. Yes I like good gear. I use TM. But I went though many makes before I settled on TM. They suit my game poor as it is, so I stick with them as I have confedence in them. Thats what matters in the end. So I will leave you to make your mind up!

I've answered NO even though the contents of my bag would suggest otherwise.

I'd like to think if a club was good for me I'd use it no matter what brand it was, and the clothes I wear for golf (mostly) are cheap brands, most not golf specific.

I buy clothes to match my clubs, i.e. I have Mizuno irons therefor role with a Mizuno hat and Polo.. Everything has to match the blue colour of my irons and hybrid head covers as close as possible..

I havent got a problem wearing Dunlop as I have dunlop trousers... great for £6 each!

Shoes have to be Footjoy and balls have to be Srixon...

I would say yes, but that does not mean I would buy something JUST for the name. If it fits the criteria of what im looking for then I would buy it.

For example I don't think I could bring myself to buy a Galvin Green wetsuit for example, when I know that Proquip, Sunderland etc are just as good for less of an outlay.
