Yes its another Cycling post from Alchemy Golf Im afraid folks.

Hot on the heels of all the Track Golds in China and now Bradley Wiggins lying 4th,well 3rd really because the current leader is gonna disappear in the Alps.
Also Mark Cavendish, the new superstar of world cycling has already won 4 stages this year to add to his 4 from last year and will probably win some more before Paris making him Britains ALL TIME most succesfull tour rider in HISTORY at the age of 23.

I ask can any other British sport compete with our Cyclists for home success????????

Also the Lance Armstrong most amazing comeback ever is still on track, gonna be very interesting as the race goes through the alps.
The 2nd to last stage mountain top finish up the INFAMOUS Mont Ventoux is gonna be one hell of a showdown between the leaders. If you have a bad day you could lose 30 minutes never mind seconds.

Come on BRADLEY,if he could podium it would be a massive achievement..

Cant tell you how excited I am!!
Heard theres some golf tournament on as well somewhere in Scotland... ;)

What's that nonsense race where they follow a moped round the track for about 6 laps then race for 1 called again?

Tour de France is pretty good though - like the mountains stages best.

Did read Lance A's original book - very uplifiting read it was too, a remarkable man.....hopefully legal too??

Not an expert on Track Cycling but is it the Kieran with the moped?
That is a bit weird, the moped goes faster and faster till the last lap when anyone still in touch with the moped fights it out for the win.

Tour of Britain is coming through my area again this year, getting bigger and bigger names riding every year so I will ride out again to one of the hills to watch them come through and try to pick out the stars with my 8mp video camera phone.

Err. You know what's coming.

The British olympic sailing team.

The British Olympic rowing team were quite succesful as well. As I believe the Olympic horsey bridgade were.

We might have won a couple of something called the Ryder Cup as well at some point. Don't know about that though. ;)

Forget the last 12 months kak.

Niall Mackenzie. Britain`s most successful GP motorcycle racer since Barry Sheene and is the only man to have won three successive British Superbike Championships (1996-1998).

Carl Fogarty won 4 WSB titles, not just 4 stages of a race per year. Unfortunately he's still a dick!

Sir Jackie Stewart 3 time World F1 Champion.

Sir Chris Hoy. Multiple Olympic Gold Medal winner.

So to answer the question, no.

My post is for the last 12 months Andy.

You will be saying Stirling Moss next.

I love it when someone comments on something they obviously have no idea about. You have to go back in history to find brits to try to compare with this kind of success which says it all to me.

Lewis Hamilton was the man last year and Jenson has not won the F1 title this year yet.Bradley is doing well in the Moto GP 125 but there all a long way short of my fellas success in the last 12 months in his sport,END OF!!

Most top cycling pros hope, wish to have 1 Tour De France stage win in a whole career never mind 8 in 1 3/4 races at the age of 23.

Your post has no relevance to my post at all.

Not trying to wee on your parade.

But neither of the guys you mentioned is going to win the tour, are they.

So winning a stage is pretty similar to winning a F1 race then. Most pros would like to win one F1, let alone 6 out of 7. And I suppose winning a F1 title must equate to winning the Tour, so Hamilton done ok last year as well, at least, I suppose 1st is better than 3rd or 4th.

So it looks to me like you sort of shot yourself in the foot there. Mentioning two brits yourself who have actually done better in their sport than your guys have.

END OF !! ;).

But it's good to see such enthusiasm in any sport. I just wish I could look at any cyclist and not suspect them all of being drug cheats.

err No I have to disagree

F1 is shight and not a reflection on the best driver.

Why is Lewis crap this year,is he a worse driver than last year?
NO!!!!!

Its about who has the best car/Package.

In cyling They all have very similar equipment, the bike makes very little difference, hence why Lance Armstrong called his book "Its not about the bike".

There is no hiding place its down to the riders performance as an athlete.
Good try for trying to wee on my parade though!!! (Hapless excluded)

Again Can any sport in the last 12 months compare with British cyclists success!
Were talking
Chris Hoy 3 golds,SORRY SIR CHRIS HOY!
Bradley Wiggins 2 golds, currently high in TDF
+ all the other gold medal winners

Mark Cavendish
3 stages in the Giro D Italia
Winner of Milan San remo, The 1 day classic every cyclist wants to win and No brit had ever won it.
8 stages of the tour de france and counting, also lying 2nd for the Green Jersey.

Cycling is not just the TDF and Olympics,There are many more I can mention but I will keep them back for extra ammunition later on

END OF ;)

.....or the riders ability to shovel as many drugs down their throats as is humanely possible!!!

Come off it Alchemy, how can you possibly big up the achievements in a sport that is riddled to bits with drug cheats???

Nice back peddle though when asking from the OP to all of a sudden the last 12 months when faced with much better options than your own ;)

I wouldn't have wasted my effort replying Keef.

As you say the original post ask's one thing and is suddenly changed.

And on ammunition, a 9mm would be my present to Alchemy.

In my opinion for the last 7 years cycling is a far better sport to participate in than hitting a little white ball round a field trying to get it in a hole.

And that comes from someone who achieved a lot as an amatuer golfer.

Its about opinions on here, everyone is entitled to one and I respect yours but Im always going to side on the sport I love to do with an absolute passion.

Golf holds no appeal for me,I tried to reignite it when I made the cut in the county champs in May with no practice but it didnt happen and my clubs have not been touched since.Whereas I am always counting the days/hours to my next ride, event or trip abroad to the high mountains of europe where the pros are riding right now.

Also I cant tell you how good it feels to be losing weight, getting fit and riding 100 mile events again. Its not the reason I do it,I do it because I enjoy being out in the country lanes with friends having banter and taking on the challenge of every ride. The fitness and weight thing is just a nice bonus..

1st of all Homer my last post was about how much I enjoy doing cycling not the TDF.
we covered this in another post didnt we where you Homer did quite a bit of back tracking as I remember.
1st saying I dont like it, then said yeah I watch it and enjoy it especially in the mountains.:D :D :D :D

I talked extensively about the drugs issue in that post so im not avoiding anything.

Like I say its opinions,my opinion is you would have to take me kicking and screaming to the 1st tee rather than head out to the hills on my bike..

Who won the open today by the way,ive been watching the TDF all Day.
seriously who won?

I can see the appeal of cycling (although not a sport I'd ever consider) but given the choice of willingly putting myself through that much pain and physical effort or enjoying a leisurely stroll and maybe playing well once in a while there is no contest.

There was a guy who drank in our village pub until recently who was a big cyclist in the 60's and 70's when it was mostly amateur and he regularly competed in track events, road races and the old Milk Race (tour of Britain) and who still regularly road out for the day (he was well into his 60's) just for fun. Fair play to him and you if thats your bag.

Well said Homer thats your opinion, and there was a time when striding the fairways was my utopia but things change and sometimes a fresh challenge and passion is very invigorating if you have lost your desire for a previous passion.

Im sure my enthusiasm is obvious.
Your right about the pain by the way, unfortunately the pain has to be endured till the fitness levels reach the stage where it becomes enjoyable.

I set off at 7am on a solo training ride today and did 78 miles and the last 20 were HORRIBLE but next week it will be that bit better.

Think I will go out with the cycle club and shelter in the bunch and go a bit further.

Just seen Cink won, always thought he would win a major!

Hi,

not trying to hjack the post , but what level do you cycle at ? I find cycling a very intresting sport , the fitness levels of the people who do it are amazing and with regards to Lance i would hope that as many people would want him to win as they did Tom Watson today.

I have just picked myself up a hybrid and I am trying to get back into cycling, I had forgotten how hard it was . Can you recomend any good books in regards to tng?

Cheers and hope all is well

Midnight...
