You could probably fit 4 or 5 golf clubs in there.
The only downside I discovered, while hurtling down a hill towards a busy junction, was that it renders the brakes totally inoperable.
I only did it the once.

Use that drop bar space.

Imho you don’t want anything strapped to your back of this length.
Balance is affected and the chance something can snag it.
cycling has its risks and the last thing you want is something long sticking out.

Down the crossbar is the best option

Personally I’d fix the clubs to the frame pointing forward , jousting style. rather than across the handlebars.

A guy at our club carries a stand bag and push trolley on a super bike.

I’ll let that sink in.
