What's sad about an unused bit of land being used to benefit nature? Better than building houses on it as is the fate of other closed courses.

Southwood in Farnborough was closed by the council a few years ago and was turned in to a community parkland

This new parkland would become what is known as Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace (SANG). Being a SANG permanently protects the land as public open space, meaning it would never be built on

It is now

There is a course up in Edinburgh, Torphin Hill, which has closed, the club house has been repurposed as an assisted living accommodation with some of the surrounding land used for their needs, the rest of the course has gone back to nature as far as I can see

That was my thoughts on it too.
Was an interesting course and enjoyed playing it.

Similar thing happened to Frodsham GC recently.

We had a couple of away-days there over the years, and my niece worked there in the restaurant when she was a student. My brother walks his dog there now.

Agree about the benefit but frequently the reporting can make golf courses sound environmentally unfriendly. Then you get activists destroying greens etc.
