Having lessons, and the swing is falling apart because i can't get my hands quick enough thru the ball,i'm losing all tempo as i'm trying to hit it harder bt my hands just don't work.ta in advance

i was coming over the the ball, and he's really trying to get me to hit from the inside, think i'm almost there, but its the hands, other people seem to have noticed it as well.

You used to have an out to in swing. To compensate for that, you needed the face open at impact.
Now that you've improved the swing path you don't need to compensate any more.
Have you had your grip checked by your pro?

no,had one size up,then i switched to standard, sorry guess you mean position,as nuetral as can be he said, tried to strengthen the grip but it felt to weird with the other things

Stick with it but why not go back to the pro and say yo're struggling and ask him to explian again why he's got you doing the drills he has and what he's looking to achieve. It might be you haven't quite grasped something or mis-understood and have tried to over compensate. He cna also check your grip and set up

i see him now and again at the range,he's more concerned about me getting it in from the inside then he'll work the rest in,i'm just impatient like a lot of us are i suppose when things not going as quickly as we hoped, was wrong time to my 3 cards in at my new course thats for sure!!

I had, still got some of the problems you have, in that I was swinging out to in, but now thanks to lessons, so the teaching pro tells me, my swing path is nigh on perfect on plane every time.

THe problem I have and I think it may be the same as yourself, is that I can't get my hands to square the club face up quick enough, I do get the release, rotation whatever, but I'm doing it a split second after I've hit the ball and hence the ball goes right.

He has given me drills to try and help but it's taking a long time, but I'm struggling to get my hands up to speed, same as yourself.

I do hope you have had a video lesson done. I had lots of people say the same as you that my hands weren't quick enough through the ball. Then I had a quick video done and we could see my hands were fine, infact almost too quick, it was my hip rotation that was the problem. I have worked alot on making sure my hips are leading my swing and not my arms. I still have an out to in swing and I still turn the ball slightly left to right but it's the same amount on every swing not all over the place as it had been. I know where I need to aim to bring the ball to where I want it to be and it's within 5 yards of my target. I will start on my swing line in the autumn ready for next summer but for now it's going in the right direction.

If you feel you've given the change a 'fair crack', then it's possible that the change, or method of going about it, is not for you. Have you tried Bob's headcover drill? While I'd prefer a 'correct the fundamental fault' method, it's possible that simply 'fixing the symptom' produces a more natural correction.

BTW. I believe you are confusing rhythm (smooth flowing, jerky etc) with tempo (fast, medium, slow). It's perfectly possible to have players with different tempos with equally good rhythm. Jack Nicklaus (or Pauil Casey, say) and Ernie Els for example.

i dont know why everyone has massive problems with swinging out to in. ive had plenty of success fading the ball. hitting a straight ball is not the be all and end all. practice the short game and putting to see the most dramatic improvement in your scores, not the search for the perfect swing!

It's all well and good hitting fade, but there's a big difference with an out to in swing and a large slice, as will be the case for many. So striving to get the elusive straight shot will not only help with the drives, but the long to mid irons as well.

You are right about the the short game though.

Agree to a point. I still think you need to straighten the shot out a bit to make it manageable, just in case you happen to catch one right and it goes straight.

But yeah, once you've got a slice that you can aim to the left fairway safely then putting and short game work is likely next on the list.
