Any PC wizards in the house????

if your pc is 32 bit it cant utilise anymore than 3.3GB of RAM anyway. If someone has sold you a quad core with less than 3GB of RAM this makes me angry lol and they had took the piss. What makes you think its a virus that slows everything down? what does this 'virus' do? Even if you had filled ur HDD your processor aand RAM (providing its a decent amount) should blast through it! Have you used something called 'process monitor'? its a free tool but u can monitor the processes active on ur PC and see which ones are hogging the CPU/memory etc?

I'm running Windows 7 64bit and I know the spec of the PC is right. The slowing down of my PC has been going on for ages, the recent virus was a totally unrelated thing.
I've had a guy "fix" and clean my computer up and it will be back with me later today. I've been told it's running a lot quicker but will be checking it with Fragger just as soon as I can.

Well dont believe everythign you hear. Ive heard that your a bad tempered git who throws your clubs about, regularly 4 putt, litter the course with your 'nippers', and struggle to drive past 180 yds with your OAP clubs - how would you like it if people believed all that? ;)
 
Providing you dont have important documents on ur comp.. you could get it wiped and all installed again... boom like new i do it often...

Short answer - Yes.
Long answer - It's an absolute piece of crap that provides no value whatsoever & basically achieves two things - 1, bogging down your PC with extraneous rubbish and 2, managing to be so badly programmed that part of it crashes simply in the act of starting up.

One of my pet hates is internet providers who insist on you installing the contents of their 'startup' cd when all you actually have to do is plug in the router & connect your PC/laptop to it to get online. I dread to think of all the customers PCs I removed the BT software from in my previous job.

As Rob says, the BT browser is possibly the worst piece of merdé ever conceived.. Uninstall it and download Firefox.

Short answer - Yes.
Long answer - It's an absolute piece of crap that provides no value whatsoever & basically achieves two things - 1, bogging down your PC with extraneous rubbish and 2, managing to be so badly programmed that part of it crashes simply in the act of starting up.

I've never heard of a BT browser, but I can imagine it's not exactly good.

It's an good post, because one of my top 10 rules is never to install anything unless it's vital. All of my gadgets (sony mp3, fuji/sony cameras) come with software and I don't use any of it, unless you can't connect to the equipment without it.
Most of the stuff that comes with phones/mp3/cameras is shoddy 3rd rate "apps" that are a total waste of time and can potentially cripple a low-spec PC.
I help folk out all the time with running issues and so often, there are things going on in the background just hogging CPU/RAM. I downloaded a package from HSBC once to "improve" my security doing online banking.
This ONE program, went in at no.1 on my background processes slowing up everything. It was single-handedly using MORE computer power than everything else put together.

and don't get me started on Sony software....... :eek:


I run/own/use more than 5 PCs and 2 macs, they all work flawlessly (now I have some experience).

I'm afraid that services/products using software on your PC are all part of the big problem with PCs. If you don't use these, even an old spec PC can run like new. The fastest PC I use is the one in my home recording studio. It's an ancient AMD Athlon 2400 with 1gb RAm running XP. It's just a shame I had to "fry it" and build it up (the software and PCI cards) from scratch in order to do this.

Needless to say the best computer I use is a Mac G5 (old, like the driver!) but then it's specced to the max and cost someone about £2,000.

ive just installed firefox and imported my favourites but cant find them or a tab for favourites any idea :o
