Any other 'musicians' out there?

It's great reading about others experiences on here. Just goes to prove that we're not all one dimensional golfers.;)

After Aztecs rather superior efforts, I felt my effort was (and is) appalling. But as a first time effort on a single take, ah well. So this morning, I'd thought I'd try multi layering using Garageband. Never done anything like it before in my life. And as I might have mentioned, I only started learning this song last week, and only have just picked up an electric guitar after ten years of not playing. Not that I was any good back then either!!!:D

This multi layering thing helps to give a much fuller sound. It also helps with the fact that I can't move my fingers fast enough to get all the notes. So breaking it down into four different 'layers', really helped. But yes, it is all me with regard to the guitar work.

Just scroll down the link a little and it's there!!

Mate, your first posting was ace! I've never been able to do anything like that in Garageband!! Will listen to this one later on when I get home.

You're far too kind with regard to my first offering. Even I know that!:)

Garageband is quite straight forward. It took me a while to figure out how to connect the electric guitar to the latest iMac model, as it doesn't have a line in input. There is a post on my blog about how I achieved it.

Found the backing track, without guitar in the iTunes store. Downloaded it, and imported it into Garageband. Adding multiple layers is easy enough. Bearing in mind that this is my very first attempt at this, I'm not 'unhappy' with it. Big learning curve!!

Love playing guitar. I have an '87 Strat, an '04 Tele, a '97 Les Paul, Yamaha Accoustic and an Eko 12 string Accoustic. Tend to play more in the winter when I have more time due to less golf.

I was in a band called 4Hours for years, we did a recording last year which was our swansong. I called it a day due to the constant gigging in small places on weekday evenings in front of nobody but my mrs and the soundman for no money even though it was a 50 mile round trip.

I could rant and rave about the music industry here in the UK and what a joke it really is, how there are 'businessmen' lining their pockets whilst young talent (whoever they may be) are being taken for a ride on the off chance someone hears their music and likes it. But that would be boring.

Here is a few songs from our last ever 'E.P.':

Thought "Destination' had 'pop' hit written all over it. Certainly the most commercial offering. Good stuff.

Sadly the music industry has missed many great bands. But then again, public apathy to music is also to blame, as people are quite happy to be spoon feed by the radio stations and thus the music industry who aren't interested in developing talent. (There you go, I've done the rant from outside the music industry point of view!).

Fortunately no footage, recording or anything else exists of the immortal "Dirty Water", a band I was in for a while far back in the mists of time(early 80's)
Sort of a Quo, AC/DC type band I thumped the Bass and growled in a Lemmy-esque manner.

Played a few pubs around Reading (one of the Guys was at Reading Uni) and had a whale of a time!!

Played keyboards as a pro musician for many years. Had the most success in Africa, working with a guy called Johnny Clegg. For those non South Africans who don't know him you may know some songs from the films George of the Jungle and Rain Man. Also worked with Jackson Browne on a few gigs.
Main claim to fame was when we had a gig in Frankfurt and Nelson Mandela came on stage with us for the first song. I would give a link but I had just been butchered by the worst hairdresser in Joburg and looked like something from the Name of the Rose!
Still have a studio at home.

I too was in a few bands back in the 80's one band even had a record deal with Creation. also did a little stint as an A&R man for a well known indie label, untill my father made me get a proper job in the City.

the way forward then was do loads of gigs build up following. very few bands get richfrom making records, why do you think the Rolling Stones still gig at their ages..... wonga.

I've had a Les Paul for a couple of years.
I have never played it because I cannot play guitar.
I bought it because it's a beautiful, beautiful thing and many of my guitar heroes played one.

Slime.

P.S. I guess that makes me a saddo then!
