so at work we use the EU working time directive - must have 2 days off in 14. Great you say but if I want to work overtime whenever I want to I can't. My work is screaming out for peeps to do OT aswell. I wouldnt mind but my working week is only 36hrs so hardly tiresome.

UTTER TOSH!!!!!! (yes I am a grabbing git at the mo as want to clear all my little debts in the next couple of months and buy a few golf bits ;) )

are there any other EU oddities that have affected you or wind you up?

Can you not opt out of the working time directive?

Just be thankful things have moved on from the 'good old days' where OT was almost compulsory in some places. You had to do tow nights and a weekend. That wasn't all that long ago really ;)

Yes you can but I think there are still limitations to total hours worked. It also states that you can't work more than 48 hours a week for a prolonged period of time! I hate it...just because it makes no business sense and the French are lazy gits

I agree that anything re: human rights is tosh as well!

The whole thing is a load of tosh
We are the only idiots that implement these directives...
The French ignore them and the Itallians have never heard of them .

I'm all for the trade side of things
, but they shouldn't be making up stupid rules for us.
Our own governments are good at that

Fragger

The human rights act is/should be a fantastic thing. It's not the act that is wrong. It's the parasitic lawyers who abuse the intention of the act that deserve your contempt. The working time directive is also a good thing. Just because it stops someone who wants to work every day of the week doesn't mean that it should be vilified. It should be applauded for attempting to stop some of the less scrupulous companies from abusing their workforces.

Please don't let this thread turn into the usual right wing "daily hate mail" rant against Europe. Why not complain about the utter corruption within the EU governance.

You can opt out of the directive, however I'm salaried so that might affect people who are paid by the hour.

I was salaried and worked at least 60hrs a week and usually more than that but atleast only mon-fri. Glad I'm out of now.

Mate just emailed me this.

i work as a cse for openreach too although off long term just now...u cant opt out of it,u can only opt out of the 48hrs over a 17 week period...the only way of making more money is a 4 day weekroster pattern, working ur 2 rest days a week for o.t....if u need more than that u really are a greedy git....
