Anchored Putters BANNED !!

I think it will be phased out by a certain date which would be good. I had a go with a belly putter the other day and for short putts it was crazy simple. Not so sure about the longer ones though, would take some practice that...

Interesting to see this appear so soon after Iku's thread...do you have a crystal ball fella? ;)

If they want to ban them, they will. And they can.
Manufacturers had to adjust driver COR a few years back, they had to change wedge grooves more recently. I suspect, if they do ban them, it will be at Pro/Elite level, not being aplied to us for another 5-10 years.
As David Howell said a couple of months back, he's yet to see an amateur wield one with any degree of sucess...

The last time the R&A and USGA tried to ban something, it didn't work out so well. They will be very wary of getting used by Ping again, who have much deeper pockets than they do, and Ping were one of the earliest manufacturers of a long putter.

I assume they are considering banning the technique of anchoring rather than the equipment per se. If they allow a driver at 48" long, it seems rather odd to ban another club at the same length.

I'm blaming the mats and the fact our host didn't source my little tees required!

Response to Chrisd.

Ethan that was my worry, banning them could prove costly

is it illegal to use 2 clubs for 1 shot? ie place a 3 iron halfway down your putter shaft and grip your putter while holding the thinner part of the 3 iron shaft, whose grip them anchors in your gut, try it in a bounce game for those yippy 3 footers.........its a laugh and not to be done seriously

that would seem the most logical way to do this, however, does that mean putting like langer used to by anchoring the putter grip to his left forearm would also be illegal?
I like Tigers view that the putter should be no longer than the shortest club in your bag, after that you can anchor it from your left eyebrow if that works for you
