I think there is confusion as I read

''for most a walk of up to an hour, or a run of 30 minutes, or a cycle."
All of which can be done from outside your front door
That was a comment made by, I think, Michael Gove when asked a question. It isn’t, as far as I know, a guideline or recommendation. That’s not to say that people should spend all day cycling, but I doubt very much that anyone could be fined for going for a 2 hour walk or run.

FWIW, I think that the comment regarding your front door is the relevant one. Don’t drive somewhere to exercise. Do it locally.

Also,

Can I drive to do exercise?

The government advise that where possible “stay local and use open spaces near to your home where possible.”
They also advise that members of the public “do not travel unnecessarily,” whether that be to national parks or the local beach.

Can I exercise with friends?
Government advice warns that exercise can only be carried out alone or with members of your household.
This would mean, for instance, that meeting up with a running partner is off-limits.

No one wants to run with me anyway as I’m too slow and swear like a Victorian sex worker when going uphill ?

God help us if we’re going to base our decisions on what the yanks are doing.
Just remember that 'individual freedom' or 'freedom of the individual' has a far higher ranking in the minds of many in USA than 'doing the right thing for the community'!

can you continue to play golf in a one ball? or even a 4 ball with members of your house and have the same risk as sat on your sofa? I'd say yes
can you and your family sit in the middle of the empty park and have a picnic and game of football with the same risk as being sat on your sofa? I'd say yes.

however the point is, if one does it then we all do it and preventative measures just don't work! this is about social behaviour. we are all in it together. I'm left dumbfounded why people are still struggling with this. it leaves only one answer...... SELFISH

So you drive to the golf course, nice and safe bcause the roads are empty.
Then bonkers mental comes round the corner too fast because the roads are empty.
Police are called, ambulance is called.
You both end up in hospital taking up much needed bed space. Doctors and nurses are diverted away from dealing with virus patients and their day just got that little bit longer. You've come in close proximity to how many people?
And why?
Because you were bored with staying at home and wanted to play golf.
Next time you see a doctor or a nurse, ask them if they'd like a bit of time off on their sofa.

ok. you are sat on your sofa when you get overcome by a carbon monoxide leak. or a car loses control and drive through your front window. you would have been fine had you been on the golf course.
the chances of a car crash driving to a golf course a extremely low. but by your argument you shouldn't even walk down your stairs as you might fall. at some point risk is acceptable. I'd say driving is acceptable

With the whole world in crisis, it's not up to you to decide what's acceptable and what isn't.

The facts are you are more likely to catch/spread the virus if you mix with other people and you don't do that if you stay at home

its not up to you either. however, our government have not banned driving to the shop so it looks like they'll be accepting the risk associated with driving too. i said in a earlier post that I think I have very little risk playing golf but it's the knock on effects it has. I can't even go fishing on a private lake with 5 pegs that are 100 meters apart. but I understand why I can't

It's not up to me either, I didn't say it was.
The govt has said the risk is acceptable to buy food/medicines etc, not to play golf which would not be a necessary journey.

I'm a yank (North Carolina) and you are totally correct. It's becoming clearer every day that our national government has got a clue what they're doing. Some of the governors are doing the right thing, but others are not.

The health sec said on question time said it was fine for people to drive a distance to go for exercise. Not saying golf should be this at all.

I could have an accident on my way to work (key worker before you say work from home)

Anyone could have an accident

All these extra bikes on the road ATM (perfectly ok, their allowed to exercise. Good for mental health and good for people to get out long as you social distance) could have an accident

Anyone running could fall over an break their ankle taking up a vital bed

Roads are a lot more quiet than normal it's good cars are down to the levels of the 1950s apparently. (Heard on radio)

There could be more house fires with people at home more

Anything could happen

Whilst there are a lot of corniaidiots out there as people are calling them...... But there are an awful lot of people who have taken the complete lock down stance and worrying too much. Not saying it's not a serious situation at all. It's a big deal and anyone shielding (as My wife is) it's hard for them and they need support .. however also a lot of that worry turns to anger and miss information or misinterpreted information doesn't help.

If people stay home happy days thank you , hero

If somebody drives 10 mins to go shops because they feel safer than walking . Hero happy days

If people order stuff online to keep themselves sane , or knowing they could lapse on say a drink addiction or gambling or something .. hero well done

Long as people are safe and social distance.

Respect social distance if you leave the house.

Don't let the fear of covid 19 become almost as dangerous as it.

Mind is a powerful tool.
