Amazon pays £1.7 million in tax

All companies should pay the going rate tax in the country of sale. (uK)
This is then a level playing field .
If they don’t like this arrangement don’t be a multinational and just stay in your country of origin.
This might be simple but it would work.
Can you see Amazon saying Ok we won’t trade in the UK.

Cheers CC me man. 👍keep talking.

Isn’t it simply a voluntary contribution, the same I believe that Harrods make. Paypal is another, making multi millions but are based in Dublin for the UK operation and Luxenbourg for their HQ, thus avoiding full tax liabilities.

My beef would be more aimed at the likes of Paypal rather than Amazon, as the amount of people & jobs they create here contribute huge amounts of tax & NI, the last thing we should do is drive companies who are investing in our country Away, whereas Paypal have no UK investment as such so contribute nothing! .

Robin, you have far more experience and understanding of business than me and I fully agree we shouldn’t be driving overseas companies away, my gripe is we seem to be giving them better opportunities than we give UK companies.
Surely it should be a level playing field for all Companies.

If people are fed up with amazon not paying enough tax. Don’t buy from them they will soon shut up shop and bugger off

Amazon pay over £2m in rates to Fife Council for their Scottish hub.

I would rather support a business like Amazon that saves me money and gives such an excellent service than subsidise one that gives poor service and costs me a lot more.

Is this the same Amazon that has received over £5mil in subsidies from the Scottish Government and pays it’s workers in Scotland less than the minimum wage?

Typical Capitalist response, nothing illegal means it’s ok and we’re all sitting here with piles of money fiddled through benefits struggling to decide what companies to become shareholders in.

I ain't no Capitalist!

It's about a company taking of Government policy that was expressly designed to encourage it to employ UK workers, with safeguards that the scheme is not merely a 'tax dodge'!

Without knowing the full details, it certainly looks like a good scheme - for employees as well as the employer!"

I aint no socialist either

Are you sure about that (the 'minimum' bit)?

Following the link, the article mentions 'living', not 'minimum'!
Easier to pick faults with poster than discuss the issue, I’m out

Well, when the entire basis of the post is simply wrong, one has to wonder about the motives!

Btw. Not picking faults with the poster, just the post! I'm happy to have the same applied to mine!

I think the BBC have blocked your link.

I am pretty sure that the money I save by using Amazon Prime is spent on other goods and services which generally have a 20% VAT tax imposed...swings and roundabouts.

BTW British Armed Forces contractors do not receive a living wage when working in Scotland and they don't get any free shares in the UK government.

Does that not put them more or less on par with Amazon.

I don't suppose for one minute anyone on here has ever fiddled there work times and expenses sheets.:o
