I'm looking to book a 5 day break in the Algarve around Villamoura for a friends 30th. Have any of you been on good package deals there with golf included or is it best to book flights/accommodation separate to the golf? Any decent places to stay which have good night life too?

Just an idea for you, i normally go to Villamoura or Albufeira but last time we tried something different and stayed in Lagos, we played Boavista Alto Vista and Parc de Floresta, i was pleasantly surprised by the standard of the courses they were better than the Millenniums and others in the Oceanic group and cheaper (dont get me wrong here if your going to pay the bucks for the old course or vale de lobo etc then thats for you, but iv played them all and the ones around Lagos were as tough as any in Villamoura). We stayed in a 4* hotel facing the marina which was also cheap. There is plenty of pubs etc to refuel after a hard round too lol.....Unless we play the top courses which is a little £££££££ ill def be going back to Lagos in the future.

If you want consistent and quality nightlife stay in Vilamoura, Albufeira has sadly passed it's best but the old town is still a nice place to visits for a meal.
This is a decent hotel:

Other hotels that are good are The Lakes:

Or for 4* Dom Pedro Marina or Dom Pedro Gold.

My favourite course are:
San Lorenzo
Vale do Lobo Ocean

Quinta do Lago South & North (in that order)

And around Vilamoura I like The Old Course but most of them are good.

Hope that helps but if you want any other information let me know as I lived there as a Thomas Cook Overseas Holiday Rep for 2 years (all be it ten years ago but I went back there for a holiday last October).

PS: I still have contacts here http://www.tee-times.info/en/ should you want to try them.
Ask for Jackie Currie and mention that Mark Flook pointed you in her direction.

I stayed at the Paestana Vila Sol Hotel (5 star) for 4 nights last June, it's up in the hills above Vilamoura and I got a deal on their course, which I found to be an excellent course.

They hold the Bobby Robson Memorial Classic there each summer.

Don't know what you're planning to do clubs wise, but I hired some from here:

This was a lot cheaper than taking my clubs on a budget airlinne!

Have to agree,we played villa sol last oct,and found the clubhouse and course fantastic.

Have always used Yourgolftravel for Spain/Portugal. Gets you your accomodation and golf in a single package. Flights separate.

We stayed at the Vile Galle (sic) hotel in Villamoura and played the Old Course twice(awesome) the Victoria (a serious challenge) and the Millennium (play it first if you do) Courses. All transfers to and from the course was included and the nightlife is spot on around the marina, especially after a hard days slog on a buggy round a perfectly manicured golf course in the sun.

You'll love it out there

My father in law used to have a villa at pestana, the two courses they have there are awesome, lthough expensive IMHO. Carvoeiro is a great little town for a quieter night out, although there is a karaoke bar there owned by a crazy German guy, it's a must do night out!!!
