After Ronnie's demolition job on Barry Hawkins earlier tonight BBC2 replayed the Alex Higgins Peoples' Champion documentary.

Snooker was my game before golf and I grew up in the Higgins - Davis era so remember all the key points in great detail.

Sitting here in bits as the credits roll at the premature loss of such an amazing charismatic figure.

A true one-off and a unique talent and certainly the modern game owes him a massive debt.

Got to agree with you especially your last paragraph , sadly there are too few characters in modern sport.

The break he made against Jimmy White in a semi- final when he had to win the last two frames was the best I've ever seen. I think the break was around 50 and most of the shots were far from easy and under extreme pressure.

I remember that very well as I was a massive Jimmy White fan.

Sad to see but great to see him and Jimmy playing together at the end last night.

Got to see him a couple of times when The Masters was up at Wembley...
Not sure how you really define charisma...
But, however you do, he had it in bucket loads...
