Prompted by the Mail on Sunday I finally went to Aldi & bought some of their award winning malt whisky. £17.41 a bottle, cheaper than a lot of blended whiskys and, to my untutored nose & palette, excellent. One of them won in a blind tasting against a bottle costing over £50. I bought the Islay & Speyside, hoping someone else (hint, hint) will pop in & get me the Highland to complete the collection.
I looked up Glen Marnoch on the map but it must be like Brigadoon, it wasn't there. Aldi are very cagey about where the stuff comes from. Not surprising as I don't suppose the distilleries want to own up to supplying them at such a cut price.

I got a bottle of the 29 year old as a Christmas present [Speyside I think].
It is very good but not as outstanding as last years amazing 27 year old [Islay Bunahabin they experts guessed]

Aldi's blended whisky - Highland Black - is also very good. Makes a great WhiskyMac and has featured in many hot toddies in our household.

Always good to have a cheap bottle in the house for the "least favourite" guests. No point in wasting the good stuff on them!

Coz am a supportive kinda guy. I am on a diet with missis T. Part of the diet says you can drink whisky. 😳

It’s top stuff

Prefer speyside personally in general. The Aldi version is a smooth as any 60 quid plus dram I’ve tasted. Lovely stuff
