You tried cycling Chris? I also have a dodgy knee (same reason you have) and have found that cycling is a superb no impact exercise to strenghten the muscles around the knee, doesn't do the ankles any harm either.

I have bad arthritus in the left hip so I'm worried that the constant grind of the hip whist cycling could be problematic

44, 6ft and a pretty decent 12st 10. Not the greatest healthwise but not too many bits hanging off yet and still of 12 with ambitions to get lower. I'm still capable of hitting 150 range balls in a session or doing 72 holes in a day so there is definitely life in Homer yet. Look at the seniors tour. They aren't doing bad for late 50's and early 60's. I am thinking of doing some tai chi to see if that helps my core balance and suppleness but apart from that planning to get better with age (at least golf wise)

You'd need to take some specialist advice on that one mate! Have a word with a physio if you have/know one.

45, 6'2" and 15 st. Looking at the others I'm needing to lose a few stone. Handicap now up to 8 (lowest - 6) but on a handful of rounds this year striking it as well as ever. Had first batch of lessons this year since I was in my 20's and if only I would transfer the work on the range to the course.

42 , 13st 10'ish and i've just reached my lowest h/c ever of 3.3

Dont do fitness stuff but have just recently started a stretching and strengthening program for the winter. I see plenty of room for improvement in my h/c but i'm not too bothered to go for it cos its just unnecessary pressure to chase targets.

Two of my regular partners are 63 and 64 and they are both single figures , it doesnt matter one bit how old you are , its all about gettign the ball in the hole and there are many ways to improve this without worrying about age and weight

51, 5'11, 11 stone. I use an exercise bike most days, so probably fitter now than when i was 30-40.Only came back to the game 3 years ago but have managed ,just, to get back to single figures. With new technology, i would like to think i could get near my handicap as a nipper of 6. One noticeable difference with my game is my temperament. Being a sociable golfer these days means i don't take it that seriously, and my scores seem to be improving.

We have a player at our club who took the game up at 50, and he reached his lowest ever handicap of 3 last year aged 67. He won the English 65-70 age group amateur champs when he was 65.

He doesn't hit the ball that far, but he has a fantastic short game.
