Adjustibility.....

Nikes new driver has to be fantastic for stock keeping. One head covers any loft, from 8.5 to 12.5, in 1 degree steps, and then draw, neutral or fade biased.

Done for the consumer? Or the wholesaler?

For me, I like the fact my 910 is adjustable. I have 3 shafts (used to be 4), so I can change if I want to, easily. That said my pro launch red is staying in for the duration. It has taken a bit of finding, but I like it. I could have been c/f, but that would be for the one day I'm being measured. I'd rather try a shaft for a few months, see how it goes, and then swap it out. Easy with bolt in shafts.

Most of the time it is set a1, neutral, 9.5 loft.

I don't get why the r1 needs quite so much adjustability. Even the fitters must get confused, let alone the punter.

I think the thing that TM are trying to overcome is the fact then when you change the loft setting you also change the angle of the face to either closed or open. I could happily use any adjustable driver as the fact that the face opens slightly when I de-loft it is how I like the driver to sit. Hence the reason I have always liked TM drivers as the tour versions that then became TP do not sit with a slightly closed face.

The adjustability is all about cost for the manufacturer. Taylormade now only need to make one style of R1 whereas before there were draw/tour versions etc. they sell it to us as a fix all etc but really it's all about the bottom line. Perfect sense really.

Amen, TM have to make one club head now, that's it! None of this 9.5,10,12 degree. Manufacturing costs have plummeted because of this for them, no need to have different tooling or set ups for the machine. It's the future, one club, get fitted to it.

I think that being able to change the club setup up so much is mad
The problem i think is that as soon as you hit a bad shot u use it as an excuse and try a different setup rather than fix your swing
also surely with all this adjustability you must be sacrificing some performance??

People always say about hitting bad shots and then blame the club and adjust it. What about the poeple who buy it get it set up correctly then leave it alone. People seem to highlight the negativity of these clubs all the time rather than the positive.

SO someone buys the driver finds out it is not the ultimate answer to his bad swing and alters the setting and that does not help, who is he hurting? That same person was the one that would always be buying new kit as he thought it was the club rather than the swing, so knwo he can just trya different setting instead of buying a new driver.

Like it or not people they are here to stay, especially now that TM and Nike can make 1 club and have a multitude of different lofts stopping the need to have 7 different clubs to cover the lofts from 8 - 12. Pros must love these in their shops. All they have to do now is stock 4 drivers. Senior, regular, stiff and x-stiff, instead of 28 like would have had to do to cover every option. So how good is that? Go to your pro, pop to the rack and you can try what ever flex and loft you want. Hold on another crazy thing that has come out of this is the chance to try shafts also. So the shop has 4 driver covering all flexes and lofts, now have 3 different launching shafts, so with 12 clubs he can now cover every flex, loft and launch you may want.
