If you leave your golf club is your H/C still active & if you want to play in an open comp where H/C certificates are required how would you obtain it if you are no longer a member at a club.

It's nothing to do with active/inactive handicaps. As soon as you cease to be a member of an affiliated club, you no longer have a handicap and therefore cannot have a handicap certificate.

Can you not print off a handicap certificate from your old clubs website? Most clubs are notoriously slow at updating their records.
Failing that, if you are registered with HowdidIdo and your club are listed on there, you can print one off via the HDID website itself.
If you are not registered with HowdidIdo it's very easy and free. I can still print off handicap certificates from Boars Head and I left there over a year ago!!

official CONGU handicap are only avaiable to club members the online handcap and certicates available are worked on similiar system but basically worthless if you want to play open comps unless they accept society handicaps.

But as I say, you can print one off of HowdidIdo if you only recently left a club and they haven't updated their membership records yet.

I've linked to this in another thread this morning, and I don't mean to spam it but...

https://secure.golfclubgb.co.uk/

I
haven't read up on it properly myself as I'm a long way off visiting a course myself, but the idea is good. Don't know if anyone here has any experience with said site.

Before I rejoined a club I did join the Internet based golf club gb u get a credit card style handicap/membership card which is great if you just need to prove your ability to get on a course they also provide a brochurecwith a long list of courses accepting there card, bit the crux of the matter to play in open events requiring official handicap this is not acceptable and with advent of unique numbering and easy check on pc I can't seethes as a viable option for the OP.
