Following a chat with Kellfire on the tv thread last night, he doesn't 'get' the fuss around Killing Eve, series 1 whereas I loved it, it got me thinking about shows that win acclaim, awards etc but I have seen and just don't feel the same love for. A thread and a list seemed in order :D

(It is easy to hammer soaps, because they are dreadful, talent shows, reality shows etc but then we know they are pap. I am looking for shows that did have credibility.)

Fleabag
The Office (UK version)
Downton Abbey
Breaking Bad

Fleabag was good
I think for downton you have to like all that period drama stuff.
I gave breaking bad a go but just couldn't get in to it either.

I'd add gavin and Stacey as well.

I could have just put all period drama's to be fair, I don't like any of them. I stumped for Downton as that is the one people seem to fuss over the most.

The Office
Mrs Brown's Boys
Walking dead
Period dramas
In fact virtually everything....it's a rare show that makes me tune in every week these days and I can't think of one off the top of my head.

You're not going to like this LT, but Game of Thrones for me. I watched a couple of the early ones, and it's really not for me. I'm not a big fan of gratuitous violence for the sake of it (one of the ones I saw was when that Mountain dude basically broke someone's skull with his thumbs), and I can't see the appeal of a show where your favourite characters just get killed off at the drop of a hat. And I hate the fact that it was like 90% realistic and gritty but then with daft fantasy stuff thrown in like dragons and zombie people. Either be fantasy or don't, one or the other.

Breaking Bad was incredible though, how dare you.

1 apiece then :D. I have no issue with your dislike of GoT, it is not for everyone. The episode you quote by the way still haunts me . One of the most horrible bits of tv I have ever seen, partly due to the shock of it as well as the gratuitous element.

I feel bad about Breaking Bad, I really want to get into it but it just left me cold.

I just think the two main actors were excellent. Bryan Cranston in particular, it launched a whole new career for him. I do concede the show escalated a bit quickly though (to quote Anchorman, ha).

Funny how many people didn't like the Office, surprising that it did so well! I thought it was great, but I must admit I rarely go back and watch it again now.

  • Anything that has Ricky Gervais in
  • Breaking Bad, tried and bored me to tears
  • Walking Dead, Mrs loves it I don't see the entertainment
  • Miranda, she gets in my nerves as much as Gervais does

Jeez did your tele pack up in 1980 or something?

So many I agreed with already posted so I thought back a bit more, here's a more up to date list:

Doctor Who (new)
Gavin & Stacey
Extras (& I’m a fan of RG)
Ab-Fab
Sopranos
Lost
Anything pretending to be supernatural
