Hi everyone, I would like to say I have just started playing golf but to be honest I've not even been to a driving range yet..... :( I've got myself a set of clubs and have been thinking about taking lessons but would really like to at least get to a driving range and maybe try a couple of rounds and see how I go before I should even consider forking out money for lessons... Problem is I only moved to Inverness about a year ago and I have no friends here who would like to go along with me... I don't really want to go on my own in case I do something very wrong or make a real *** of myself..... :D
What would you experienced people out there recommend I do...? Or is there anyone in Inverness who has recently started and wouldn't mind a new partner...???
Any help would be great as I really want to get out on a course....
Thanks & Hi everyone

Hi there,if i was you i would give the driving range a go for a few times to get the feel of hitting the ball.

I imagine around your way there will be ample 9 hole 3 par type courses which are very good to learn on and quite informal

Once you get out there you will meet like minded golfers for game

Enjoy this great game

Good morning and welcome to the forum.
Do you live in Inverness or outside?
The only way to start is to take the first step in the long journey.
Find a driving range or a club and remember we all feel strange when entering a new world for the first time.
Be yourself and introduce yourself to the staf they will soon make you feel at home.
Book a few lessons to get the best start and then just enjoy the game.

The absolute biggest thing to remember is EVERYONE inc Tiger Woods were beginners once. Welcome to the most rewarding, frustrating game ever invented. :D

Hey There,
Knowing what i know now, if i had my time again i would start with a few lessons right from the off, that way you will know exactly what you should be doing right from the start. One thing i have learned about golf is that it can only take a round or a sesh at the range to develop a swing flaw. If i were you, i would go straight for a lesson that way you will be taught the correct basics right from the off.Good Luck :)

I'm with chipsand egg.
Start with lessons, it will be quicker for both you and the pro if he doesn't have to fix bad habits.
You don't have to be a member of a club to get lessons but if you get lessons from a club pro you'll be in the right environment, and you will get to know people. Many of them (even low handicappers :p) will encourage you.
Have a look round the local clubs that have the facilities, talk to the pros (that bit's free!), find one you feel comfortable with.

Lesson, lessons lessons to start with if I was you. Get the basics right and use the range to work on the drills a pro will give you and t get use to club on ball. Be prepared for heartache and frustration though but think of it as laying foundations. Once you have a concept of how to swing get out on a course, anywhere you can. There is no substitute for playing a proper course no matter how badly you play and its the only place to learn the game properly

Try and get a copy of the rules and try and learn a few basics. Most golfers are sympathetic (or bloody well should be) to newbies and will offer plenty of encouragent. Good luck!
