After playing around 5 days a week for the past 2 weeks my game was slowly falling to pieces. I've never gone under 110, and my aim for those two weeks was to do that but I shot 111 a few times then my scores kept rising. By the end of the summer I was aiming to have gotten a score under 100.

My goal was slowly fading away so I decided to take a week off. So I did basically nothing for a week (the joy of summer holidays) and had a lesson on Saturday which helped me to focus on some of the flaws in my swing, that I had failed to pay attention to on the course.

A trip to the range tomorrow to practice some of the things pointed out and I'll head out onto the course on Wednesday with my Dad to try and score under 110.

Wish me luck!

Sometimes its good take a short break.

My advice at this stage would be to plan your way round the course for next time out. I found that course management jumped me a fair few shots off my scores more than the shots I was making in the early days. So a par 4 where you should be looking at getting there in 5 or 6 play a couple of easy 6 and 7 irons then a wedge in - not try and bomb a drive and end up in the thick stuff.

Although people will say its common sense it still amazed me when I did this the first time how the shots dropped off. It is hard to take the 6 iron when your partners grab their driver but try it and see how it works out.

Oh... and good luck
:D

Yeah, there's a quite a few holes on the course where I tend to drive it straight into the trees so I'm definitely going to use my irons off the tee more. I was trying to force using the hybrid as well but it just wasn't happening so that's going to stay in the bag!

Thanks! :D

Have to agree, haven't carried any woods for a month now and am starting to see an improvement. Last two Sunday fiddles I finished 2nd and 3rd, much better feeling than having the hump (Booby prize) for finishing last.

2nd hole, par 5 used to be driver OOB, 5 wood in the trees then 6 shots later a put to save douvle figures, now its 3i, 5/6i then 9i/W onto the green, or within 10 yards of the putting serface.

Thought I'd give an update seeing as today went very well! :)

Decided to use exclusively my irons and give up on the hybrid and driver. Everything mainly fell into place, I was hitting the ball nice and straight and shot a 106, meaning I achieved one of my goals of getting under 110!

Now onto the next target of under 100!

Thanks, yeah it's 39 at the moment but I'm 18 in a month so I'm assuming it'll go straight to 28. Even though I won't be playing to 28 I'm excited to start playing in the men's competitions :)
