A vote for NIMBY's...

I live in the borough that contains much of Heathrow... Just had, through the post, a voting paper [from the council] with regard my opinion on a third runway and wether there should be more flights in and out of the airport... First time I've ever had this... Bet its costing a few quid to conduct... Wonder if I'll get a vote on HS2... Which is proposed to pass a relatively short distance from where I currently reside...

Can't see anyone voting for more noise or disruption to their lives...

HS2 is ploughing through the middle of Aylesbury Park Golf Course as well as Whittington Heath near Tamworth and going to blight a huge area from west london to the Chiltern Hills.

Interestingly in the local rag this week was an interview with Nigel Farage of UKIP who said that if they were in power they would stop HS2, with the local council elections just a couple of weeks away, it could be interesting

A politician enticing voters with an election just around the corner? Well I never.

I can quite confidently say if I was King everyone would get a free ice cream.

Heathrow and 'Boris Island' is interesting.From my understanding, Heathrow brings alot of jobs and prosperity to the area...what would you prefer..another runway or boris island and the resultant removal of a mega employer?

Not so sure Heathrow is as 'good' for the 'area' as it once was... Third runway is going to happen but I doubt it will come in my lifetime... I am plenty old enough to remember the "Heathrow must thrive build terminal 5" banners from back in the 70's and it took them 30yrs to get around to that... I worked just accross the road from Heathrow and when I started there [in the 80's] there were still people that could remember when Heathrow was a few tents amongst the veg patches...
