A marshal on the course?!

Played a four-ball on Saturday with someone new (although a friend for a while). He was telling about a person he regularly plays with who avoids paying almost all the time, even though he gets caught occasionally. I suppose living where we do (London) there are enough courses to choose from that even if one told you where to go, it wouldn't matter that much.

Personally I couldn't live with the embarrassment of getting caught, and also I would imagine the risk of that in my head while playing the round would be enough to spoil the day for me.

We have a marshall out every evening and early mornings at the weekend at our place.

I dont know how much he saves / how many he catches but he annoys me no end. I know he's only doing his job but he asks every time he sees you to check your tag back and front and the other night actually asked if he could see my green fee ticket even though he must be fully aware by now that I am a member.

He also threatened to kick a guy off the course recently who has been a member for 15+ years but had bought out his carry bag without his tag which was on his trolley bag:rolleyes:

Wookie, you sound a bit like the 'weel kent face' who parked his car in the members car park at Prestwick.
When the starter asked him to move it he got the response 'Don't you know who I am'

Starter shouts across to one of the caddies. 'Hey Jimmy gies a hand , we've got a guy here who disnae ken who he is'.

We don't tend to have a problem as we are a private members club so green fees aren't encouraged unless with a member. We have had an issue with people hopping onto the practice ground and with a lot of new faces around the place I do tend to ask people as politely as possible if they are a member when I'm there if I can't see a bag tag and explain why.

We do pay a lot for our membership including the use of the practice facilities so I resent people using it for nothing. I can see how those jumping on to play free are conning clubs out of hundreds if not thousands but how do you manage it properly on a regular basis

Not at all Doon:D I guess thats one of the problems with forums - very easy to be misunderstood.

Just to try and clarify - I speak to Stan at least once a week in the car park and had had a fairly long conversation about the state of the club whilst I cleaned the windows there about two weeks before the last "incident" I mentioned.

It seems he just gets in the marshalls car and forgets all the other members he has ever spoken to (he is a long standing member himself).

Hope thats clearer - like the "weel kent face" story though:D

I don't recall ever being stopped on any course to have my ticket inspected.

Ive never been checked either, I have also never been asked for my Fishing Licence before.

But I know that the one day I dont bring it along, thats the day when I will get checked and have some explaining to do

Its called Sods Law, and he sits on my shoulder

Fragger

At a local municipal near me you are basically told to just tee off if nobody is in the club shop and they will catch up with you in a buggy at some point to take the money. Never even crossed my mind that this is not acceptable.
