Curls
Journeyman Pro
Nice to hear those comments about Padraig, one of the aspects I like most about this sport is the degree of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct we see at every level. However, what does your club do to promote this?
At our current club you could rock up in cut-offs and swear and roar at your buddies for the entirety of your 5 hour round and absolutely nothing would happen. I've had a stray ball nicked, been stuck behind lads who've just cut in mid-way around the course, been stuck behind useless 4 balls as a 2 ball without so much as a look back from them, not to mind the amount of un-repaired damage done to the turf by folk who simply don't care about the condition they leave the place for others, it seems the etiquette is every man for himself and that's not how I was brought up to enjoy the game.
We're moving club next month, can't wait. What would you expect from a good club on joining? What does your club do? Would you meet the pro, captains, members etc? Would you be asked to play a few holes with one of the above to ensure you know how to look after the course you're playing on? Would you expect to be welcomed as a part of the club, someone who might potentially be a team player or maybe even captain some day? This is how I would like to feel on joining a new club, not just
"Where's your money?"
"Here it is"
"Right so piss off, we'll ask you for it again next year. Oh and next month we'll do a two-for-one offer, then with 4 months left on the years subs we'll let every clown with a golf club on the course for a pittance, just so you feel really shafted".
It's no wonder we never felt at home there.
Anyone have any similar experiences good or bad?
