Hi guys,

I want to buy a 910 D2 whilst they are going cheap. Went to AG today and hit all the shafts on the range and the blue Stiff shaft gave me the best results.

I tested a 10.5, but can see loads of 9.5s for sale.

Would it make a big difference to buy a 9.5 and adjust it to 10.25 (near enough)?

Or should I go back and test a 9.5 at 10.25 to be sure?

Not sure anybody would be able to detect quarter of a degree difference, surely even the most repeatable swing has a deviation larger than that.

The only thing that would be different between them is the lie angle after changing the loft.

Thanks, I know there would be a quarter of a degree, which I won't be able to tell the difference

Its the other knock on changes. I didn't think the lie angle would change? I thought the adjustment was independent?

You can get the same lie angle with the 910 while adjusting the loft.

You hover a driver, or at least it doesn't hit the ground afterwards. It won't dig in at the heel or toe. And as others have said, as you tweak the loft, the lie pretty much stays the same.

The reason I think 9.5 may be better is, this is my first driver. I can hit 10.5 a carry of 200 on an accurate range.

I would rather get a club I can dial down the loft, 10.5 I can got to 9.75 but an 9.5 I can get to 8.75.

I was thinking this may be better for the long term?

Why do you want to get to 8.75?

I just thought if I start hitting it better it might start going too high?

That's flawed logic I'm afraid, there are so many factors that affect ball flight, not just loft alone. To maximise performance you really need to get fitted but I would say it is unlikely you will ever need an 8.25 loft driver.

I was fitted by Henry Byrne at Titleist (He now does the European Tour Truck)

He recommended I get the 12 degree set to 11.25. I asked why not get the 10.5 and set it to 11.25. I was thinking a 10.5 will be more sellable in the future over a 12.

He said it was to do with the lie angle.

It's to do with the shape of the face. If you miss the sweetspot then hit from the toe or heel, the strike could be high or low on the face and therefore it affects your Mis hits rather than your good hits.

If its too upright for example then a toe hit will be coming off the bottom edge of the club face. A heel shot would be in the area to give you sky marks. Swop that around for too flat.

Best to test as many loft/shaft combinations as possible and buy what you feel is the best for miss hits and good shots combined.

Cool thanks guys.

I tried the 10.5 in Diamana Regular & Stiff and RIP Stiff.
I think I will stick to finding a 10.5, I was just trying to save pennies as loads of 9.5s are around.

Orrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
You could learn how to hit your present driver high and low.
That way, you can hit it high down wind and low against the wind

Henry fitted my 913 - really nice guy.

8.5* head turned into 10* by being in the A3 super hook setting.

that seems a strange way of manipulating it, I'd have thought a 9.5 cranked up would have been better all round, but I suppose he's the expert, did he say why this was a better way?

I said that I felt left out reading about choppers hitting blades, so I wanted to boast about having a 8.5* driver instead ;)

I dunno, to be honest - it's the outcome that is important to me not the whys and wherefores. This combo, with the shaft he put me into works for me. I've never driven the ball so consistently well.

Sounds like good advice.
I've only been playing 18 months and this is going to be my first driver so I guess I should get a 10.5.
