This month the Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy is 42 years old (or is that young - it was actually 8th March).
Something a friend introduced me to and still as great today as it always was. A pity they messed up the film so badly but the radio and TV series were fantastic.
Listening to the theme music even now gives me goose bumps. What a shame Douglas Adams left us so early.

Loved it
Dougie Adam's was an absolute genius.
So many phrases from the books have become common language in the family
And theres an awful lot of people who could do with looking into the Total Perspective Vortex....
Oh God, I'm so depressed.....Life? Don't talk to me about life....

One Sunday Glasgow morning many, many years ago, our Minister in his sermon talked about numbers - and he mentioned how one of the congregation added up the digits of the hymns and psalms for the service to see if the answer was a number that meant something to him. I did a quick tot up of what was on the Order of Service - yup - you've guessed it...:)

And I am not sure that my minister was the sort to know about H2G2 and/or would manipulate the hymns numbers in such a way.

Here I am brain the size of a planet .........

Use this all the time.

Or the best of all

"Seen it....it's rubbish". When asked to comment on something.

Goodness, is it really 42 years? Loved it then and still do. Never been bettered. Favourite quote: regarding human beings, and their propensity to keep talking (or more correctly, "to keep stating the very obvious")

"If human beings don't keep exercising their lips, their brains start working.”

So prescient of today's mobile phone society...

Decided fan of the series and also 'Last Chance to See' which, in one episode, featured several critically endangered - but (hopefully) recovering - birds native to NZ, especially the Kakapo.

'Oh dear! Brain the size of a planet and all you want me to do is open that door!'

There are so many quotes from H2G2, one of my favourites seems more relevant today than ever......

“The major problem—one of the major problems, for there are several—one of the many major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to do it; or rather of who manages to get people to let them do it to them.
To summarize: it is a well-known fact that those people who must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it.
To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.”
