Should?

Seems an odd question to me. Matter of opinion.
I see no reason why the cutting of greens on days one and two makes the cutting of greens on day 3 compulsory.

In a 36-hole comp on one day, the players play on freshly cut greens in the morning.
Should they be cut again before the afternoon round commences? I think not.

Most clubs cut their greens daily, it is the first job of the morning.

Although this may not happen if the comp is Friday, Saturday, Sunday due to economic restrictions with a lot of clubs. Saturday would be considered a normal working day but not Sunday and would require overtime payments.

Is this a competition where players play on all days (54 holes) or where they play one round on a choice of three days?
If the latter, then I think the conditions should try to be the same for all competitors if the former it really doesn't matter as the same for all.
We had a comp recently with an alternative day (Sunday) greens had been ironed on the Saturday morning and were excellent, a good score overnight was beaten by one of only two players on the Sunday with the greens just not the same.

I think it is a case of, "Them's the breaks".

If you arrange a 3 optional days comp then you just have to accept varying conditions.

Same type of thing can happen on one day where it is windy and pouring with rain in the morning and fine, warm, calm and dry in the afternoon.

Of course, there is no control over the elements, as happened on Saturday at ours, early morning, bright & sunny, afternoon, torrential rain, but certain aspects are controllable which is why I said efforts should be made to 'try to make it the same'.
