Looking through our fixture book, I see there is a 3 club competition on in a couple of months.

Assuming there is a standard format for it, does it mean 3 clubs plus putter, or is the putter one of the 3 clubs?
If it's the latter, do you have to take a putter?

Have you played in one?
What clubs would you take?

I can't be bothered with comps like that. It is the weekend, and I just want to play proper golf. Not mixed 3 club foursomes bogey.

It varies from club to club.
Where I play its 3 clubs period.
crazy in my opinion.
If its supposed to be a bit of fun, then let people have a long, medium and short club + a putter.
The last time I used 2 iron for tee shots and putting, 5 iron and wedge.

3 club comp usually means putter plus two other clubs.

I cant be at all bothered with this non qualifying pointless format either.

3 clubs including putter?

I agree, what a pointless effort.

Playing with 5 (incl putter) was bad enough and a waste of a good morning.

Ours is usually 3 clubs and putter can be one of them - several choose to putt with their hyrid. I share dislike for them - though usually join in nevertheless - a bit like scrambles, though, I go away feeling as if I haven't really had my golf "fix".

I missed my "2 Clubs and a Putter" comp. last year, which was a shame because I was looking forward to it. (I like comps. that are a bit dofferent to the norm.)

My course is very short, and I would've taken a 4I, 8I and putter I think.
