2's sweep

how does the 2's work? sorry if i sound slack, only been playing a year or so...

You put a couple of quid into the pot and whoever gets a 2 on their card (birdie on a par 3 or eagle on a par 4) wins the pot or a share of it if there are lots of 2's made.

Being the only person to have a 2 on your card could win you up to £100 sometimes depending on the amount of players entered.

Welcome to the forum.

If you expect someone to be there to collect the 2s money and do the booking in admin then that person should receive the benefits of it I suppose. Even if you are a serial penny pincher that scans the net for the cheapest gear and never wants to buy anything off the pro, you always need the odd sleeve of balls or a pack of tees or a handwarmer, "take it off the account please Pro!" ;)

When the medal kicks off at our place the only 2 people in the club are the Pro/ asst and the cleaner. Suppose we could get the cleaner to collect it in, winners get their car hoovered!!??

That my friend is what he gets paid a retainer for!

What is the set up at most clubs re 2's money?

At our club the competition entry is taken at the Pro shop (included in this is 2's).
Now the winning of the 2's is split so if £50 in the 2's pot and only 5 2's got that day then each man who had a 2 gets £10 credited to his account IN THE PRO SHOP.

What I am getting at is why should the Pro get the spin off of having all the 2's money entry spent through his shop??

To me the club should credit our cards so that the money earned from 2's CAN ONLY be spent in the club therefore the money goes back into the club and not into the Pros back pocket.

Interested to hear what others think/do....

Ours does the same Dodger thats why we call him Naveed all he's interested is getting your money.
In saying what a bunch of tight wads on here not going in for the 2's there's only one guy at our place who doesn't enter them and thats the CAPTAIN because he cant hit any of the Par 3's even with a driver.

I always entered the 2's sweep as the 17th on my course was a straightforward 150 yard hole. Even if the rest of the round had been terrible, the thought that I might get something out of the day was useful motivation...even though I never made 2 there in competition!

Ours is £2 in and a share of pot in pro shop vouchers. It is always shared with whoever you're playing with on the day, regardless of whether they get 2s or not.

Do any of you get paid out on a N/R? Assuming the 2 is before the point at which you N/R'ed. Afterwards is obviously a no, but prior to that, you were in the comp, so it should apply, but doesn't at my club. You could have 4 2s, and N/R on 18 and not get paid. I have seen people go back to the tee twice to card a 10 on the last because they have a 2 on the card and need to complete.

I find this strange. I'd be happy to share my 2's in a team game, but not if I'm playing as an individual.

Our club payout whether you've NR'd or not.

Our club pay on NRs either before or after. You pay a seperate fee so its a seperate comp.

I'd be embarrassed to accept my share if i hadn't got a two!! :o

I've heard of having an agreement within the group before you tee off that all 2's will be shared. Never heard of it being a matter course for everyone though!!??

I don't even know if they have a 2's for the Wednesday medal, not that it would have ever affected me. Be interesting to find out though.

Plus the pro's don't take the money for comps, the comp starter does that as we usually tee off before the pro-shop opens.

Seems to me that higher handicappers are usually subsidising the better player in the 2's sweeps.

Couldn't agree more. When I'm hitting 4 iron/3 rescue/5 wood to the 3 longest par 3s and the good players are hitting 6 iron/5 iron/4 iron, is it no surprise they hit the green more often? I know this shouldn't matter, but certainly on the longest par 3 (200), I feel lucky just to be on. The decent players have a 4 iron and consider it a great chance every week.

hi basher, thank you im a little wiser knowing that now, mite just give it ago, people incuraging me to join a few comps whilst my handicap is coming down ( played to 15/16 last 3 rounds) but losing the standard 2.2 shots per week on a sunday, just not too sure how to go about it, how much is it to generaly enter comps? and or is it worth it? :D
