Played my 1st ever KO competition yesterday. There was never ever more than one hole in it. Going down the 17th I was one down with a shot to come on this hole, after fluffing my second shot I decide not to go for the glory shot over the pond (over 190 yds) and play short and at least take it down the 18th. I get my half and my opponent misses from 4 feet on the 18th for me to win the hole.

I have come from behind 5 times in this topsy turvey match with both of us winning 7 holes each, more through people losing the hole as opposed to winning it with great birdies. My thought was to hit the fairway on the 19th which I managed to do. my opponent pushes his drive into the trees and I pay safe golf to win on the 19th green.

Having just joined (7 weeks ago) my first club, what absolute great fun this golf malarkey is. Although I'm going to have to play a lot more consistant than I did on Sunday to have any chance of progressing any further in this Comp.

Apart from lots of society golf, I didn't realise how much I missed the competitive side of sport since I packed up playing football 14 years ago.

Congratulations. I've never won a knock-out even after being 2 up with three to play - except in the first round losers plate. Clearly haven't got your sensible instinct to win. Keep it up!

great stuff fred

it's only us brits who love this matchplay stuff , i personally cant get enough of it...absolutely love matchplay

shame that since i joined my new club all they ever want to play is individual stableford. Get bored rigid doing it round after bleedin' round. Even had 4 of us on sunday so I suggested a 4bbb m/play....no thx we'd prefer to keep our own scores.....ffs aarrgggghhhh get me outta here

Well done ff.

Played my first matchplay KO competition last year. I was very nervous on the 1st tee. Thankfully played with a very nice guy (unknown to me prior to playing)
To cut a long story short I lost! Nevertheless, I made a new friend and we always exchange pleasantries whenever we meet out on the course.

Matchplay is a great competition. Mono V Mono, bad hole is not a disaster.

Managed to reach Semi final lasat season in club matchplay losing to a 3 handicapper, who won the the final.

Have played in a society matchplay for the past 14 years, lost 3 finals and a number of semi finals.

GOOD LUCK IN THE NEXT ROUND.

Nothing better than a hard fought game, especially if its a club competition or a club match, and win or lose you can have drink afterwards.

I played a guy last year in the club singles matchplay and we had to go to the 19th. I should have buried him but kept letting him off the hook. He wasn't the greatest company during the round but I let that go as it was a tight game and was looking forward to drink and a chat at the 19th. He done me at the 1st extra hole, put his clubs in the car and drove off still in his golf shoes. I've taken a dislike to him ever since. Just thought that was rude and a touch arrogant.

On the other side, I've played guys and we've gone at it hammer and tongs and we've not only shared a cool drink but have had a mutual respect since whenever we meet in the locker room or out on the course
