1111 Calories burned playing Golf Bonus :)

I also came across the same site Bob quotes which got me doubting what I thought I knew - and hoping too!

Yes 2000 calories over 24 hours with moderate activity but that's 80ish per hour and they're claiming iro of an extra 300 per hour - still sounds very high for what is quite moderate exercise.

My new course is quite hilly and it feels much easier carrying than using my sun mountain push trolley - can be quite out of puff by the top of a hill with the latter but a lot less so carrying (assume weight of trolley never mind a trolley bag stuffed full of "in case of emergency" essentials)!

According to this site I burn nearly 2000 calories a day just by existing. That's without any activity.

The recommended intake of calories for the average male is 2000-2500, and its for the very reason of day to day life burns approximately that much by merely functioning.

As to the main thread, but it depends on gender, height, weight etc. But if you are an average size male (5'10" 165) you will burn about 300 calories an hour walking/carrying your clubs.

So if its a 4 hour round, plus hills to add resistance then factor in the movement of the golf swing to average 2-3 times a hole dependant on ability and allowing for more shots on par 5's compared to Par 3's then you could well get playing golf upto the 1800-2000 calorie mark quite easily.

So for those looking to shed a few pounds and love their golf, what better excuse is their to give HID than "if I don't play darling then the weight won't come off"

Set my phone fitness app to 'walking' mode when i played 18holes last week and i burned 520 calories after 3.6miles which sound about correct, think your figures are way out.

For the average athletic male (11 stone) you burn roughly 100 calories per mile travelled wether that is walked or ran its the calorie requirement to cover the distance. On a 6400 yrd course that's 4 miles IF you hit everything perfectly straight and all tees/greens are adjacent so probably 5 miles which gives 500 calories, add in some additional calories for carrying/pushing and the effort of swinging etc gets you to around 800 calories. If you are on the larger side then the extra calories soon add up to the effort required and it's not impossible to get to the 1100 stated

I am just under 14 stone and My ten Mile run yesterday burnt 1400 calories might have to reconsider the basis of my marathon training plan

Theres a Morrisons store near me,with a gym less than 200 yards down the road.I've watched women leaving the gym, driving the 200 yards to Morrisons, parking in the disabled parking section (to save them walking another 30 yards further) then buying packs of sausage rolls and doughnuts !!!

I'd class that as stalking, how far is the injunction giving you to watch them from. :D

Sky Sports has just shown an interview with Scott Stallings who currently has a five shot lead going into the final round of the Humana Challenge.
They showed a graphic which indicated that, during his third round, he burnt off 1953 calories................and he doesn't even carry or pull any bloody golf clubs!
Caught me by suprise.

You'll get the jail for that sort of behaviour. Staking women is serious mate!!!!

Just started a diet and according to my phone app you burn 1111 calories using an electric trolley for 18 holes ! now the way i played at the weekend i must have burned nearly 2000 !
oh and 45mins at driving range is 238!
Who needs the gym :whoo:

My fitness pal reckons 1850 on a four hour round carrying

I can't believe the amount of sad pathetic calorie counting wierdo's on here.

If you want a Mars Bar eat it! We're here for a good time not a long time - enjoy life!

I don't really care to be honest. I could eat better (couldn't most of us), drink in extreme moderation and get my exercise mainly from walking to the station after work and playing golf. I could do with toning my gut up a bit but in general terms I'm happy(ish) about myself. I've enough to worry about on thr course without wondering if I've used enough calories to have full fat coke in the 19th

I tend to doubt these figures but must admit last year when I was playing golf most days rather than sitting in an office I did lose almost a stone. Golf was almost the only exercise I was getting.

And I ate a mars bar and drank a bottle of coke on most rounds! :)

Playing 5/6 times a week I should be like a match stick, burning all those calories, maybe I should forgo the bacon sandwich at the first the mars bar at the halfway house and the beer at the 19th.

Looking at Craig and Kevin Stadler these figures don't tally cause they're seriously fat. Must be all those you can eat buffets in USA.

They probably have one of these after their round,

It's a burger caled 'The Quadruple Bypass' and contains over 8,000 calories!

Slime.

Those calorie consumption numbers sound highly improbable unless you carried the trolley on your back the whole way.

Best case is that they have added the background calorie burn rate (usually around 2000/24 hours) to give the first 400 or 500 or so, and worded it so it says that you burn X during the round of golf, not that golf burns X. You would have burned most of them also sitting in the bar. The number attributable to golf is almost certainly a lot less and I would be surprised if you burned more than a Mars bar's worth on an average flattish golf course with an electric trolley.
