I charge my watch overnight every night, using the app doesn't seem to affect the watch battery much, if at all.

I use an Apple Watch with the Hole19 app. You do need to have an iPhone in your bag so not a cheap option unless you already have the kit. Gives me front/middle/back yardages and keeps score
