Sounds similar to pains I get sometimes. When it happens I see a physio who has told me on many occasions it's due to a shift where one shoulder is visibly higher than the other, this is usually caused by spasms in the larger back muscles.

That's mindless, smashing course, playing in a scramble there at the end of May, hope they're able to get it back together quickly!
