    West Middlesex?

It's a perfectly fine Middlesex course. We're not blessed with them in the county, but there's some interesting holes at West Mid, and by all accounts, the conditioning has got much better over the last couple of years. Probably helped by some stability on the running of the club side - although...

    Golfers Journal

Mods - feel free to delete if inappropriate, but I run Double Plateau Golf Club and you can indeed get it through us :) We have an agreement with the brands we stock in the US that we don't undercut them here, hence the £20 pricepoint (with free shipping). Huge thanks to those that have...

    WHS Handicap Index fluctuation

Pre WHS: 5.6 First WHS: 5.5 Highest Index: 6.9 Lowest index: 2.1 Current Index: 2.4 Qualifying rounds played in 2021 - 86 (and counting ...) Trying to get to 100, which I thought wasn't too unreasonable (twice a week), until I realised there was no golf from January to March ...

    25 degree hybrid

I bought a 26 degree Apex last week and have used it twice. It's ace. My current handicap is 2.5, and I play very bladey-blades ... but at this time of year, a club that I know I can hit 190y from virtually any lie is arguably the most useful in my bag, particularly around our course with some...

    Qualifying competitions

The irony, and frustration, is that one imagines its a lot of these sort of folk that are whinging about WHS, and how it is producing higher winning scores and making things unwinnable for lower handicappers. However, had this particular group been submitting their scores as per the CONGU...

The First Year of WHS - Positives and Negatives

I know that this is happening, because people have brought it up a few times on here - but it's really not been the experience at our club. Most Medals this year have been won with a score of 66+ which seems pretty fair in a field of 100+ folk. Surely there's always going to be one or two people...

The First Year of WHS - Positives and Negatives

This is a fantastic point. 90% of the negatives towards WHS in this thread have been based on what people think others might do (or might not do). The lack of linking with other unions is a totally valid issue, as are a few others chucked about. But will never be able to get my head around...

The First Year of WHS - Positives and Negatives

Share your frustration re: comps north/south of the border - although my pro submitted rounds that I played in Scotland from the scorecard (told him before I played that I wanted to register it). Definitely wasn't possible for Cat 1 golfers to put scores in as supplementaries down here...

The First Year of WHS - Positives and Negatives

This is true ... to an extent. It obviously depends on the number of rounds you're playing. The amount I play, I will do more than 20 rounds between November-December, so all of these will be my counting rounds come the Spring. I don't have any rounds from before September in my most recent 20...

The First Year of WHS - Positives and Negatives

Managed to put in 77 qualifying rounds this year, so feel I've given it a fair run. Overall - think it's a really positive move. The ability to put scores in outside of official competitions has been a huge benefit for me, and made my social golf infinitely more enjoyably, as I don't hugely...

What does this win do for Rory?

He'll win a couple more between now and the end of August 2022, and people will be talking about another 'disappointing' 3 win season for Rory. He's just really good. And has probably got 15 years+ left on tour if he wants it. There's just an unobtainably-high bar for him to reach every year...

Do your clubs fit in your car boot?

Audi A4 Avant (estate) as I ease into middle age. It's pretty much a prerequisite now for me in London that I can get the clubs in the boot without being on show - as there's times I leave them in if I'm nipping in/out during the day. For a brief period last summer I had an old / cheap Porsche...

How many will submit “Qualfying Cards”

This is exactly what I will do, I guess it’s just likely that my criteria for when I will pop a card in will be different. And on the days I don’t, I’ll hit a few balls and practice chipping etc. I genuinely don’t think anyone is arguing that you shouldn’t be able to do this. But at the same...

How many will submit “Qualfying Cards”

Perhaps, but I’ve never played in a roll-up / swindle etc with cash on the line where people aren’t fussed about the rules - with the possible exception of gimmes which are only there to speed play up (... if you can miss, it’s not a gimme). But I can’t believe the strength of opposition to this...
