GM Article - Handicap System Ruining Comps for Low Handicaps

I think the problem is that as a higher handicapper your swing between a great round and a rubbish round can be massive. If for the sake of example and simplicity you go around most of the time +/- 100. You can have a really good round and throw in a 89-91 but you are also just as likely to...

    Random Irritations

TV Series - What Are You Watching?

Mid way through Coma - quite good Andor - not a huge fan of the new stars wars stuff but this was actually quite good and I will look at season 2

    Ridiculous golf shots

I teed up a touch too high with a three wood or a hybrid can't remember exactly, but I managed to get so underneath it, that it went straight up in the air up that I had ran forward five yards I could have caught the thing. I have no idea how I did it.

I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Played at new club this Saturday in a Swindle - played OK bit chilly and was windy but was sunny for most of our round. The 18th is downhill and you could see a massive dark cloud getting closer and closer and just as we got in the heavens opened.

    Burnham on Crouch golf club

Hi all, Anyone a member or play here? dipping my toe in next Saturday with a try out round in a swindle as looking at potential membership - not the closest to me but not stupidly expensive or stupidly long wait list or closed since December due to adverse weather. Thanks

Got out yesterday, sort of society day and the call (a good one) was for a scramble. Course was booked quite a few weeks ago - fully expecting a cancellation but no. Strangely no temp greens and some pin placements at the back of the green allowing people to walk all over them. Some of the...

    Playing elsewhere phobia!

If I have a rubbish score home or away I know the number of strokes vs cost of the course/day improves so I actually get better value for money

Can you still have fun, playing with a ‘card in your hand’?

I carry my Ace of Spades everywhere I go. It does interfere a bit with my grip a bit and maybe dents my enjoyment a little... Blend of both for me

I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Didn't get out today as was working in Liverpool but the other night I managed to fit in a range session. There I was minding my own business hitting a few balls when a young lady (inappropriately dressed in a fleece) I may add started hitting balls next to me. She was OK but after watching...

Tee shot ball moves (stroke made) but stays in the teeing area.

Thanks all - sorry I should have worded that better - just to clarify he said it did not count as a stroke because it stayed in the teeing area. So he re-teed it and re-played what he said was his first shot. I thought it should have been his second shot I must admit I wasn't aware that he...

Tee shot ball moves (stroke made) but stays in the teeing area.

Had this come up yesterday and just wondered if any experts know the ruling. Mate goes to play the ball from the Tee he was actually taking a stroke (not a practise swing) and totally miss hit it to the point that it dribbles between his feet but stays in the teeing area. He says if it stays...

The mental block of being paired up with randoms

I was in the exact same position as you a few weeks ago. I wanted to start up again after a long lay off (18-20+ years) but I had moved area and lost touch with the guys I used to play with anyway. I had a couple of friends who sort of play once in a blue moon but I wanted to play more and the...

I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

I played on Saturday and actually won my monthly stableford with 38 points. I played really well (for my handicap) and had 23 points on the back 9 - handicap allowance was 95% I got cut by 2.8

    Career Change

Thanks for the replies all and lots to think about. The plan was for me to retire around 55-60, downsize house move out of the south east to somewhere clean, green & friendly. Only between 4-9 years but the way the work is at the moment and the amount of stress and pressure they put on you for...
