I have a similar opinion but not quite as stringent.
If your handicap is in double figures you'd be far better off loading your bag with hybrids.
There's always the odd great ball striker with a brutal short game but more often than not most double digit handicaps would hit more greens with...

Cruised to a 6 under on day 1.
Fri and sat he hung tough in tricky conditions.
Sunday kept his cool and plotted his way round and let the others crumble.
Glad he's got his 2nd. Well deserved. Ball striking masterclass and course management supreme.
We do a comp with our mates. 10 of us. 3 players with a combined odds of 100/1
All 3 must make the cut to get into the weekend.

Because of this thread I checked to see where the last of the pace of play signs are at our course.
It was situated on the gate on the walk between the 15th green and 16th tee.
Does any course have a sign saying how long the full round should be as you finish the 18th.
