Player A picked up the second ball, found the first ball and finished the hole with the first ball.
After reading some of the replies here it also occured to me that Player A could have been playing a provisional ball (without advising the marker). We were playing stableford. Player A advised...
Player A plays an approach shot to the green, hits it thin and overshoots the green. Player B (the marker) was walking up to the green when player A hits another ball (from the same spot (assumed because player B has his back to Player A) onto the green and just short of the flag. Player B says...
To doublebogey7,
Thanks, your response was fine. I would prefer that the rule included something like "the player may play the ball as it lies or take relief...".
The sign was just GUR, there were no other directions.
As noted in my post, I'm aware that a local rule can apply, e.g. "that the player must take relief..."
My query relates to a GUR without any local rule or extra direction.
General discussion after the game with the Captain and some members about GUR. The Captain insisted that a player must take relief from an area marked GUR. I disagreed and said that the player has the option to either play the ball as it lies or take a free drop.
I later did some research and...
Yes, the second para was for a laugh.
I agree, I will take it up with the pro shop and hopefully they will take some action.
I'm in Australia but I find this site a useful source of information.
Cheers
Played today in a stableford comp. On the 18th tee I finally noticed that a fellow competitor had a lot of clubs in his bag. I did a quick count and saw there was at least 15 clubs (it looked like more). I asked him how many clubs he had and he said 15. I told him the limit was 14. He then said...
There is a pretty hefty difference between the grooves on a club and a putter that could also double as a lethal weapon.
I'm having trouble reading the numbers on a printed scorecard, so trying to gauge the width of the groove on the clubface isn't going to happen.
The putter in question is...
Hi,
I inadvertently posted this by mistake, I hadn't finished editing it. I thought I had saved it to be posted later on.
In any case, my query was simply whether the putter conformed with the rules. My limited research indicated it was non conforming.
I posted the query here to get the...
Hi,
Played a competition at my club on the weekend. A fellow competitor in the group had a weird looking home made putter. I'll try to describe it: it was a blade style putter but it had an extension at right angles to the putter face pointing forward toward the hole (the target). The extension...
Thanks for the link.
There is no question that it was a stroke.
I'll try and clarify the event; after missing his first putt, instead of taking the time to walk around and take a normal stance the player reached over the ball and attempted to hit it back toward the hole. The shot was with the...
