Maximum number of clubs in the bag - Rule 4.1b - "a player must not start a round with more than 14 clubs"

Yes, the second para was for a laugh. I agree, I will take it up with the pro shop and hopefully they will take some action. I'm in Australia but I find this site a useful source of information. Cheers

Maximum number of clubs in the bag - Rule 4.1b - "a player must not start a round with more than 14 clubs"

Played today in a stableford comp. On the 18th tee I finally noticed that a fellow competitor had a lot of clubs in his bag. I did a quick count and saw there was at least 15 clubs (it looked like more). I asked him how many clubs he had and he said 15. I told him the limit was 14. He then said...

    Putter design - non conforming

See #19 above. He didn't win the match. If I do see him again I will make him aware of it.

    Putter design - non conforming

I may never see the player again but I have spoken to a club official about it.

    Putter design - non conforming

There is a pretty hefty difference between the grooves on a club and a putter that could also double as a lethal weapon. I'm having trouble reading the numbers on a printed scorecard, so trying to gauge the width of the groove on the clubface isn't going to happen. The putter in question is...

    Putter design - non conforming

Hi, I inadvertently posted this by mistake, I hadn't finished editing it. I thought I had saved it to be posted later on. In any case, my query was simply whether the putter conformed with the rules. My limited research indicated it was non conforming. I posted the query here to get the...

    Putter design - non conforming

Hi, Played a competition at my club on the weekend. A fellow competitor in the group had a weird looking home made putter. I'll try to describe it: it was a blade style putter but it had an extension at right angles to the putter face pointing forward toward the hole (the target). The extension...

Missed ball completely on the green - striking the ball

Thanks for the link. There is no question that it was a stroke. I'll try and clarify the event; after missing his first putt, instead of taking the time to walk around and take a normal stance the player reached over the ball and attempted to hit it back toward the hole. The shot was with the...

Missed ball completely on the green - striking the ball

I'm having trouble locating "Interpretation Stroke/1" (salfordlad). Can someone post a link to that reference? Thanks

Missed ball completely on the green - striking the ball

I had no doubt it was a stroke, I was hoping it might be addressed in more detail in the rules. My indefensible comment was more my frustration at seeing all the good work in getting the ball to the green thrown away by a sloppy shot...

Missed ball completely on the green - striking the ball

Playing a round of stableford (the competition for the day). A player in my group putted up to the hole. The ball just missed the hole and finished a few inches past the hole. The player then reached over the hole and attempted to tap the ball into the hole with his putter. The putter hit the...

Failure to hole out, stroke play, penalty

My initial post relates to the competition of the day. In this case it was a stroke competition (and also the monthly medal). It just so happens that the monthly medal at our club is a stroke competition. It could be stableford, par or stroke. My understanding is that stroke is considered the...

Failure to hole out, stroke play, penalty

I'm a bit bemused by some of the responses here about how scores are (or are not) recorded. If I'm playing stableford I record the shots taken to complete the hole (unless I am clearly exceeded my handicap). If I'm not sure if I get a shot on the hole I'll putt out just in case. But in...

Failure to hole out, stroke play, penalty

It's not a question about handicaps, it's about playing the comp of the day, in this case it was stroke i.e. in stroke it's about how many shots you have on each hole. The rules state that you must hole out before you go to the next hole. Pretty straight forward.
