We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas from all at Golf Monthly. Thank you for sharing your 2025 with us!
Craw,
I have a Ping trolley bag in pristine condition, used for about 5/6 rounds - exactly the same as this one:

Reason I didn't use it for long is I'm a bit of a poser and picked up a Callaway one 2nd hand to...
I have a sunderland suit, and also a galvin green one i bought when flush with cash a the end of last season.
The Galvin outfit is without a doubt worth the extra cost - it is much more lightweight and flexible, and as a result much easier to play in. Its also much better at resisting water...
iku - one of the best things you could do is to go to the first tee early one day and just watch several other groups drive off. You will be amazed how many "good" players will make a mess of the first tee. I regularly play with a guy off 8 who hits between 25 and 40% of his 1st tee shots OOB...
I really enjoy a scramble - you get to play a load of shots you wouldn't normally, and its especially good if you have a couple of better players in your four (and you get to see how easy the game can be if you get yourself in a good position!)
There was a fourball (handicaps - 1,2,2,5) at our...
I read a lot - have read a large number of the books on this thread.
Really have to recommend "Power of the Dog" by Don Winslow. Anybody who enjoys any sort of crime novel will enjoy it - one of the best I've read. Was recommended to me on an internet forum and I was glad I took the chance...
He dropped 13 shots in 4 holes having been about 9 under his handicap to that point? I'd be a touch suspicious to say the least.
We've all thrown away good rounds on the last couple of holes before (even Rory McIlroy will testify to that), but that is ridiculous. Even I'd struggle to make such...
slow fourball for me. I get a bit bored and feel very tired when having to wait for every shot. I also have too long to think about stuff and can talk myself into the wrong option (am a firm believer in your first thought usually being right for your own game).
The others are frustrating, but...
I can only think my PW is broken!
Driver - 230-240 average, can get it out to 270 if I bend my back (finding it afterwards is difficult though!)
5i - 175
PW - about 100!
I think I must hit my shorter irons half-heartedly - I get my 8i out to about 140-145, but 9i only goes 120 and wedge 100...
Stableford favours the higher handicapper in my opinion (as a fairly high handicapper myself), because mistakes aren't punished as much, and there is more chance of getting lots of 3 & 4 point holes (eg a par with a shot or even 2!)
I reckon medal competitions probably work out okay in terms of...
I managed to get through 90 last year, and am already thinking about 80!
Stay away from trouble would be my advice. I tended to get in trouble or waste shots by trying to play silly shots above my level such as a 4 iron to the green from 190 yards etc. I'd then be playing the third from behind...
I used to enjoy gaming on my Xbox, it was great. Until it broke. So I bought a new one, and that was great as well. Then that one broke too.
With a refund in pocket, I bought a PS3 - never had a problem, and brilliant for so much more, as outlined by others.
3 pars and a birdie on the card? I'd give you 17 or so. Might take a while to get used to playing to it, but the handicap secretary won't give you above 20 for fear of you shooting 12 over in your first round - those scores indicate you can break 90 fairly soon.
Ignore the bad holes, remember...
The one just then was ridiculous (Aiken?) - could see that going into the crowd all the way down the shot and just stood there hoping a seagull would fly past and knock it onto the green. The lad it hit didnt really seem to see it coming - could have been nastier than it ws
