We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas from all at Golf Monthly. Thank you for sharing your 2025 with us!
Biggest thing I see with really new players,(I was guilty of this myself) is rushing. They get fast in every aspect of play and often start losing it as the score mounts, thereby getting even faster as they steam up.
I'm not advocating slow play, just calm relaxed play.
They have to be able to teach and that takes communication and passion for what they are doing. Even when they are teaching a hacker not just a good player. In short they have to connect with you and in a very short time, inspire you to give your full trust into what they are preaching.
Then, I...
Pro's are not gods, a lot of them are totally naff teachers and will only try to make you swing the way they think is correct or normal. Blindly doing what a pro tells you to do without understanding why and what's it leading to is not even remotely the route to success that most of us hackers...
The pieces are there for me, I see flashes of good stuff in all aspects of my game. Encouragingly, the days when I’m just not hitting it so well are now yielding considerably better results than they did in the past so hopefully less confidence sapping bad rounds and more consistency is coming.
Ok, I have had a bunch of traditional ½ hour lessons, most often they go a bit like this; the pro looks at you hitting a 5 iron, asks what you’re working on and what issues you have. Then you go up to a video room, get your swing recorded and shown back to you which is usually hideous...
One of the nice things about my new swing is that I don’t have to worry about coming over the top any more or out to in. Everything is approaching from the inside automatically, for me that’s all down to set up positions, spine angle and the back swing.
I have expertise in this area because I suffer from recurring short game shanks. Never hit one on a full swing, but part swings can spell trouble. Unfortunately, there are a load of possible causes, and while I know what causes mine, yours could be totally different, the saving grace is that for...
He is based in Altrincham near Manchester. As for his cost, well that's for him to say, but I think it's standard decent golf pro charges per hour.
Interestingly I researched him and his stuff on the net a lot before I went, and while you can pick up a lot of his philosophy from the stuff he...
I could have brought a new R11 3 wood for the price. Also, I feared the length of lesson before I went, but in reality I only hit balls for about an hour. The other 3 hours were learning how to hit balls. Big difference. It was so unlike a traditional golf lesson, but so much more productive for me.
You can't do the following in a comp, but if your having a friendly knock try this...
Once in trouble take your medicine, then drop another ball in the same spot and try the glory shot, keeping tabs on the results over time.
It will drive home the fact that trying the miracle recovery is a...
On Friday I had a 4 hour lesson on my swing. It was an expensive investment in my game, but I can't tell you how good value it was. What price do you put on gaining knowledge about how to hit a golf ball solid with compression?
I still have a long way to go, but there is no shiny new driver on...
I picked up a set of second hand MX25's just over a year ago and played them all last season. Can't praise them enough, decent looking at address, great feel, decently forgiving on miss hit's and most importantly of all... They just give you confidence that you have a good bat in your hand.
