Just do what your golf pro suggests, no point in paying him all that money and then doing something different.
Don't worry about hitting the ball the same distance with every club that will change as your swing gets better.
Don't ignore the driver it is a wonderful tool, if it isn't going...
You have everything going for you. Nobody will expect you to do well. The old hands are under a lot more pressure than you because they will be expected to perform to their handicap. You in your first comp can relax and enjoy the ride and concentrate more on what you are going to learn. You...
I have been lying awake all night mulling over the comments in an earlier post on ‘lessons’ likening the golf swing to a garden swing. I had never heard that before so gave it a lot of thought.
I don’t get it. The garden swing works entirely from gravity; you increase the momentum of...
I changed Pros because the one I started with was young (nothing wrong with that)but he had a set routine. He used to arrive a couple of minutes late and was always looking to leave a couple of minutes early. And he kept saying excellent, good shot all the time.
The pro I have now has been at...
What's the shot you hate the most?
Is it the two yard drive off the tee, the out of a bunker across the green into another bunker, the third putt or the topped chip that skips across the green into the rough the other side?
Any others?
Which one is most likely to have you throwing your club...
I would take a 5 wood and smack it OB. Hit another ball into the trees, hack through the trees with several wedge shots, get it up to the rough beside the green and hack a couple of wedge shots onto the green then three putt.
It's easy this golf game.
As a follow up to the pre-shot routines.
How important do you think the practice swing is?
I personally think the practice swing before taking the shot is very important. I see lots of people on the course just waggling the club to loosen up but then just step up to the ball and hit it.
I...
Pick spot on the ground in line with target while standing behind the ball.
Stand alongside the ball parallel to that line but far enough away for a practice swing.
Check back foot is square to the line and shoulders are in line with feet.
Practice swing as though meaning to hit the ball...
I agree with everything birdieman said.
What I found useful on the driving range is to ignore the mat and side walls and actually line the ball up. In other words stand behind it and line up a spot on the mat that is in line to the target. Then stand parallel to that line and get the club head...
My thoughts for what they are worth.
No point in lessons if you aren't going to practice what you have been taught in between. I used to hit 500 balls between weekly lessons but then my driving range is ten minutes up the road. I neglected the lessons and practice for a while and it started to...
I started with a full set of Howson with bag for £99 and managed for a while. They weren't particularly user friendly but they are a set of clubs and if you can hit the ball with them then being fitted for a decent set later will improve your game enormously.
Isn't it all a matter of your own personal opinion about what is smart? And do the actual colours matter?
Most people recognise scruffy but have you been down your local high street recently, nobody dresses up to go out these days, least of all to the shops?
I put it down to laziness, people...
You can't draw a straight line for this. Do you remember restaurants turning away people without ties? There are now an awful lot of golf courses about and I get the impression that some of them are indeed struggling against the competition. But is relaxing the dress code the way to get more...
