Jan 2019 rules height a ball should be dropped

Regarding the change of rules for January 2019 can someone please clarify when taking a drop at what height from the ground the ball should be dropped? I've seen and read it should be from knee height and I've seen and read it should be an inch from the ground. Which if either, is correct? Thanks

    Out of bounds marker posts

Is it true that if a hole is marked with white stakes as out of bounds that those stakes have to go the full length of the hole to the green.

    Callaway Aqua Dry Trolley Bag

Eighteen months ago I made the mistake of buying a Callaway Aqua Dry Trolley bag. First mistake definitely my fault, I bought it off the internet without seeing it in the flesh, if I had I certainly would not have wasted my money. All motif's and wording are quite thick stuck on plastic, catch...

    Water Hazard Penalty?

Playing in our monthly medal one of my playing partners miss-hits his shot into a yellow staked water hazard. When we get to the hazard we find his ball and he's had a bit of luck, its lying OK on the top of some mud with some thin wispy bits of grass close by and he decides to play it. Careful...

Does the person marking your card have to be on the course for the full 18 holes

Thanks all for the varied and interesting replies. The question was nothing to do with whether play had been suspended or not due to the weather conditions, it was solely to do with whether the marker should have returned to the course itself with his partner or not. As an observer at the time...

A dilemma on the rules of golf, what would you do?

Like many of us who want to avoid getting trench foot on our saturated courses I have been left indoors with a glass or three of wine, gazing wistfully out over the sodden landscape and wondering what my fellow golfers would have done when confronted with this dilemma. What if you...

Does the person marking your card have to be on the course for the full 18 holes

So, you are playing the monthly medal with your mate and walking to your ball on the 18th fairway when suddenly the hail hammers it down and you both agree to mark your balls and make a run for the clubhouse and hope you can finish the round later. Sure enough within 20 minutes or so the hail...

This ball had a mind all of its own

If I had lost by one and there had been any chance of getting a replay or the result changed I would have defiantly have taken it because I hate it when you lose to your mates. Sadly the swine beet me 3 and 2 and has never let me forget it.

This ball had a mind all of its own

Thanks for your help guys, I’m sure a repeat of the incident would be unlikely but at least now I know …….. And with my new found knowledge I can feel very righteous about my generosity that day, I’m now going back to my opponent and demand a beer. Thanks again

This ball had a mind all of its own

I’m playing my singles in the club knockout and by the fifth I’m two up. On the next I hit my tee shot off a par 4, the ball runs through a bunker and comes to rest about 2ft up onto the fairly steep grass face of the bunker. Still cursing my luck that the ball hadn’t stayed in the flat...

Can I guess where a hazard line runs?

Thanks very much for clarifying the situation Colin. I didn’t think there was any other option but as I’m no expert I just wanted to be sure. Of course this now means that in the bar after our round next weekend I will be giving my rules friend some serious stick for his adamant...

Can I guess where a hazard line runs?

Sorry Cooklad but our local rule is quite clear and you don’t have choice, it is a compulsory penalty drop which means you cannot play the ball under any curcumstances from within the hazard.

Can I guess where a hazard line runs?

Thanks for your help guys but I probably should have explained my querie in more detail. In order to protect the liner of this stream under our local rules if your ball falls anywhere within the hazard area you must take a compulsory penalty drop. A painted line on the ground normally defines...

Can I guess where a hazard line runs?

Hi All, A friend has recently started considering himself as something of a rules expert while he apparently study’s to become a referee. His latest missive seems to be that a player can take it upon himself to “guess” where a hazard line should be. Is he right? A curving stream...
