I think they’ve changed it now so you can request one band above but it increases your net game value more. You aren’t wrong with the country membership though 😀 I’ve seen so many people join royal st David’s for that exact reason
Would suggest looking at app's like Thousand Greens, anyone can join so long as they are a member of a golf club. Once on the app, you can then message people at other clubs to play with them (at the members guest rate, not the visitors rate).
Sure there is a yearly fee, but you make your money...
Would be happy host at Bearwood if you'd like - usually in it's best condition around that time as well. Not cheap for guests but would highly recommend playing it at least once!
