I'm certainly a keen wearer of shorts from around the end of March to the beginning of October. I've already received a number of comments from other club members this year speculating when the shorts will be pressed into action again.
Irrespective whether I playing in a Medal or Stableford competition, I play with the same approach. I record all my gross scores on my home course and enter them into a spreadsheet I devised, which tracks how I playing month on month, year on year.
I attended a presentation made by the STRI at my golf club last year and it was clearly stated that players walking on frosty greens would cause damage and this would be noticeable during spring/summer.
Yes, I played the full 18 and this included a conversation with the Head Green Keeper, who was swishing the greens. Fortunately, I did not have to spend anytimetime looking for golf balls. Might even try and play the same time tomorrow.
Teed off at 7.47am finishing at 9.49am, surprisingly not seeing another golfer on the course! Shot 2 over my handicap in damp conditions under foot. Now time for breakfast.
I'm leaving home in 15 minutes to ensure we turn up when it's still dark to be at the head of the queue to tee off first. Having previously played at a course which had tee times for Saturday comps, I much prefer just turning up without having to book.
Our last qualify comp is at the beginning of October and it will not recommence until the end of March. The committee will review handicaps at the end of the year and those that have played well from Oct to Dec in the weekly swindle may be cut.
