Board Comp today, Ind Stab, played OK, putting deserted me a few times, twice 3 putting 2 of our Par 3’s, but in my defence I was going for a “2” each time and overhit them😂😂

4 Ball ahead of us had 2 guys in a buggy and on the back 9 had lost nearly a hole and a half on the group in front.🤷‍♂️

First qualifier of the season, strokeplay, off the whites. Great.

Played ok actually, drove it well in the main with a couple of exceptions (see below), and hybrids were good, short game average to poor.

Net 76, card was ruined by a 9 on one of the par 5s and an 8 on one of the more difficult par 4s. both after lost drives.

Played a team open at Tiverton today. We played nicely, but I've never seen so many putts die at the edge or lip out. Decent score could have been excellent.

Tiverton was in great condition and pleasant. But I didn't love it to be honest. Several walks between holes, and a few very similar holes.

What was really great was the hospitality and welcome. Lovely clubhouse and smashing food.

I’d of binned it! Just over 4hrs for us today and we waited on every tee and fairway on the back 9!

I’m amazed how many stuck it out.

We have always had an issue with really slow play later in the field, but this started early this morning. The club will pay a starter, but won’t stump up for a marshal. The problems should be obvious but they do nothing to mitigate them.

For example, we were the fifth group out this morning, and the group behind us, once we finished the 2nd, were never on the same hole for the rest of their round. They lost a hole before they’d played two.

And that happens through the field. In short, if I can’t get a tee time before 8.30am in a comp now I just don’t bother.

Played in an ‘irons only’ competition, made it a long course off the whites with a 5 iron as my longest club (165-170 yards). Great fun and great weather - and I scored nearly as well as with my woods and hybrids

Played in an open at Copt Heath today. Medal comp.

Never played there before, had heard good things about it but I thought it was only okay.

Started unbelievably well, a bogey on the first followed by a par on the long 2nd, hitting the green from 225 out from the rough. The 3rd was a 195 yard par 3 and I hit an absolute beauty to about 8 foot and made the putt. 7 over after 12, well under my handicap and then on the 12th I topped my ball and took a triple on the signature par 3 followed by a super annoying shank on the 13th leading to a quadruple.

I finished up 20 over, after being 5 over on the front. The differential has come in at a 15 though, subject to any PCC change, and I'm super happy with that.

What could have been though....

Your club needs to get a grip of things as 6hrs is a complete nonsense and only happens if competitors haven’t a clue about what they are doing. As mentioned by others, even later in the day rounds of a competition 4BBB at my place will only rarely take much more than 4hrs 30min. There would be all hell to pay if rounds were taking near 6hrs.

Name and shame by requiring players to record their round start and end times…and publish them.

Played yesterday in the invitation at Crosland Heath - course was absolutely fantastic. I played Ok but racked up a horrendous score - how does that happen? I think I hit one bad drive all day, went right OB down the 15th as I was trying to get more out of the driver, but apart from that I felt like I'd struck the ball really well. Putter was hopeless - greens were slick and that's probably were I was punished.
Jamie is back there today - 36 holes of matchplay in his first Yorkshire Union event - hopefully he fares a little better than I did.

Betterball comp today and with the sea mist as well it was a slow, slow round. Both me and my partner played great golf though, shot a gross 73 which gave us a net 63. We scored on 9 holes each so not sure what will happen handicap wise with that as I believe you can get cuts now in betterball?

Play actually got stopped for about 20 minutes due to the mist, it was clearing and then coming back due to the wind coming in from the east. By the end of the round it had finally burned off though.

Net 63 left us in 4th place after only 14 entered scores, so god knows what the winners are going to shoot.

Medal today

Slooooowwwww - the lack of “ready golf” , people searching for more than 3 mins and people not willing to hit a provisional plus the inability to let people through is staggering

Anyway 5 over today - 4 three putts 😖

How slow? Heard from one of the back markers in our 4BBB board comp yesterday. 6 hours 20 minutes.

I was really looking forward to today. Our mate that used to play with us regularly was back playing today so our old four-ball was reunited. Weather was amazing, finally. We played a little betterball Stableford match, me and 23 shotter vs 11 shotter and the feller who no longer plays often, getting 14 shots (me 13).

My partner and I started ok, taking it in turns to produce the goods when it mattered, which got us 2 up after four and 3 up after eight. I was managing some pars on the par 3s but doing very little else to help really. I started losing the plot altogether on the second nine. Sliced out of bounds on the eleventh hole (actually the 5th but we started on the 13th). Horrible misread for 3-putt on the twelfth. Doubled the next three holes with some terrible shots. Highlights from these included; a couple of slices, a couple of complete tops, and a shanked 70 yard pitch.

On our sixteenth hole, a par 3, three gentlemen waited for me to play on the left hand side and I nearly hit them with a heel-top. Then shanked another pitch and nearly hit my mate who was walking up. I said my goodbyes and headed for the clubhouse given that people's lives were now endangered. Then I realised I was going to catch the aforementioned three gentlemen and it would have been embarrassing so I just awkwardly hung around and decided to play the hole again properly, on my own. Yup, complete and utter headloss by this point. Hit three balls and eventually hit the green with the third one. My mates saw me and allowed me to catch them up again, asked me I was hitting on the seventeenth and I said sod it, why not. Hit a decent drive, through the back of the green with my second, and then chipped it in for birdie.

Stupid. Bloody. Game.

Anyway, it turns out my mate had won my car crash hole on his own, so we won the betterball match 2 & 1. My personal score was 23 points. After two lovely shandies in the afternoon sun I decided to go back out on my own. Still not much better but I gave myself about 7 Mulligans and shot 28 points for 12 holes! Lovely.

Not that slow !! Think we were 4:30 for a 3 ball

The timing of the round isn’t the issue for me if the round is flowing , waiting on nearly every shot from about the 3rd is painful

I can live with slow if the pace is consistent, unless of course it’s an absolute snail’s pace.

It’s the stop/start nature of some slower rounds I can’t abide. Messes with what little rhythm I actually have.

One of the worst front 9s I've had at the club.....and the back 9 was nothing special either.
Handicap gone by the 6th hole
'Nuff said...
