Need some advice guys.
Bought a Zero Restriction Gore Tex jacket in 2011 from a golf club about 45 minutes down the road from me. It was a very expensive jacket when first released but due to this club having cut ties with Zero Restriction, they were flogging all their stock off dirt cheap so I managed to get the jacket for £70. Bargain!

It's since lost it's waterproof abilities so I contacted the club who told me that they no longer have an account with Zero Restriction so I should go to them direct. Zero Restriction, after an exchange of half a dozen emails, told me that the jacket was a UK model which they no longer make or stock so I should therefore contact the golf club again. Obviously, I've done this and they are adamant that there is nothing they can do for me. Another issue is that Zero Restriction don't appear to be all that popular over here and all customer service issues are dealt with in the USA.

I've contacted Gore Tex who have asked for pictures of the jacket and seemed to be very helpful but the lady was unsure if there was anything they can do as they don't actually stock jackets.

What do I do?

You don't need to tell me. I figured I was going to have difficulty with this issue so looked at getting a new jacket...hence why I'm now very eager to get this one replaced.

I've just used NikWax on a few items that have lost their waterproof-ness.

Waiting to see whether that has worked on its own or may need to tumble-dry (or use the iron/towel method) to re-activate.

twenty mins of tumble drying, after the garment is dry is meant to re-activate the materials water proof quality, so hopefully that works, i dont think you will have much luck trying to get it exchanged now though which is unfortunate.

Your contract is with the club. They should deal with this for you. Whether they still deal with the manufacturer or not is irrelevant. Their contract is with the manufacturer and the manufacturer must fulfil their contract with the club and the club with you. You should not have to contact the manufacturer or Gore Tex at all.

Gore tex should not let water through whether or not it is beading water.
Tumble drying just reactivates the water repelling not the waterproofness.
My 10 year old GG does not bead water (I don't have a dryer) but it is still 100% waterproof.
The golf club should be looking after you.

I'm going to chuck it in the wash tomorrow and tumble dry it to see if that reactivates the waterproofness. Hopefully that works, if not, then I've got no idea what I'm going to do but it'll probably end up involving a bin and Galvin Greens new range of jackets.

Do not wash it with normal detergent, that'll ruin the top and (I think) render the Gore Tex lifetime guarantee invalid. It must be washed with a product like nikwax etc... before being tumble dried.

Using non-biological washing powder is fine.
Don't use biological or fabric conditioner.

Do Goretex approve the use of products like nikwax?
