Zanzibar......Has anyone been?

I'm sure HID wouldn't mind at all if I took her there for a couple of weeks as a honeymoon

There must be at least a dozen sodden parkland courses within a 10 mile radius so don't forget to take your clubs, kill 2 birds with 1 stone...

Have they stopped throwing those bloody spears there yet?

i went about 8years ago. it was very nice but you had to pay a lot of money have some luxuries. if you're prepared to slum it then its ok. the spice tours are strangely interesting. i cant remember the exact number but something crazy like 92% of the world's spices originate from that one small island.

most of the resort beachers are immaculate and the sea life is off this planet

i wouldn't fly all the way over to holiday there but i would definitely go there as an extension to a holiday in Tanzania or similar.

Wife and I were in Zanzibar 10 years ago, stayed in a luxury complex with 12 foot high gates on entry and private beach, wasn't encouraged to wander off on your own, the locals we met in the complex were very friendly.

Went on the spice tour and was good also visited a local prison where slaves were kept a real eye opener, I found the level poverty difficult to come to terms with sometimes.

Saw where Freddie Mercury was born in Stone Town which was pretty run down, some scaffolding on some tall buildings was just bamboo tied with string.

Every local we met were very friendly and always had a smile on their face, beautiful country and very interesting history.
